Why can't we put spaces in our names?

Will this restriction exist in the game, as well?

I'm also hoping the game will allow names longer than 10 characters.

You have a last name so you only choose the first name.Middle name not needed.

That assumes all names are single words.

That is untrue.

You mean like a first name of Betty Anne?

Betty Anne doesn't exactly sound like a name fit for a medieval fantasy character. >_>

However names like Anne Marie wouldn't seem too out of place.

I had that problem too.. I like to make exotic looking names like S'jarnif ulve ---generic last name here--- My character MmaBouria I wanted to look like M'ma Bouria. I guess, unless it is actually changed in the real game, we'll have to deal with smooshed up names. I'm not sure why they wouldn't allow it. Even the xbox has umlauts, punctuation and other strange symbols to use.

On my keyboard, at least, it does accept the back-tick (grave accent) character, so a name like O`Roon is possible.

Oddly enough, it accepts the £ (pound) and € (euro) symbols too. That seems less useful.

(edit - added) The ALT-keypad codes work (at least, some of them do) for characters above 128 in the character set.

Try ALT-0160 (non-breaking space) :o

As a test, I've uploaded a character called "Gwen Dolin" using ALT-0160 to make the space. It's there. It works.

Hmmm, Thanks for the tip, Granitewardrobe. My mage, Frank'l, will have to try it. Currently, he is using the moniker, Frankel.

Some of you may be aware that I am having trouble with the one-word name, "Chardonnay."  It won't upload, as it is considered profane.

Lol!..  In fact all my characters, no matter the spelling are pronounced Throat-Warbler Mangrove.. :P

It makes me wonder after reading that alt-codes work if this is just some function that's messed up due to the CC not being plugged into the actual game.  If the game is released this way at least we all now know that alt-codes do in fact work and we'll be slightly ahead of the curve when it comes to naming new characters.

All ALT the codes from 0160 to 0255 do seem to work in the CC. That gives us lots of accented characters and a few other odd symbols. It was said that the CC was extracted from the actual game so if it works in CC it will probably work the same way in the game. Worth trying, anyway.
