If other players don't like the Arcane Warrior class as it is, then they don't have to use it.
It's nice having an overpowered class to choose from that can make your 2nd or 3rd playthrough easier on you.

Better yet, there's an in-game reason for not getting this class: you learn it from an ancient mage trapped in a gem.

all the arcane warrior was good for was tanking. crap auto attack, and inefficient casting

Who needs casting and a high attack when you're damn near invincible.

That's what I was thinking too. maybe someone who thinks that it is over powered can tell me why.

I tried a heavy armoured mage with a shield and no weapon, worked well, but not overpowered

Why invincible? I must be mising something from this specialization.

OK, but what about the AW makes you any more invincible than a heavily armoured warrior?

The first Arcane Warrior ability allows you to equip armor and weapons using your magic score instead of strength. What if the ability was kept, except it used HALF of your magic score rounding up to determine what you could equip? I think that, at least for a start, it could help the class be less overpowered but still retain its identity.

I say tweak Arcane Warrior or replace it with a specialization that is more combot oriented. I agree with Mecha Tengu here, Arcane Warrior was boring in the actually melee fighting part, mostly I just soaked up damage and cast my spells and had Elemental Chaos on. I would like a real warrior mage class, the ghost/spirit/illusion of that one Archon in the gauntlet for the sacred ashes was inspiring to me.
Maybe add a specialization that includes Tevinter lore that has you more combat oriented but a little less defense.

I don't think they need to get rid of the class, but I think it does need tweaking because it removes the inherent weaknesses of the mage and severely upsets class balance. I have an idea, just for a start.

I like this idea. Maybe then you could use medium armour at most, which is under used in the game..
This is assuming, of course, that armour would work the same way in DA2..

Lore-wise it was one of the worst specializations, and it obviously catered to a specific crowd of players. Arcane warriors, right... kensai, bladesingers, spellswords, mage-with-a-sword, whatever... it lacked the Dragon Age vibe, in my opinion.

which is..... awesome protagonist with sword + shield whacks at the dragon's head supported by a woman archer and a healer?
pfft as if we've never seen that before
I admit, the game was being too familiar with the hybrid class, but mage + warrior hybrids bring a lot of fun into the game

This. I loved the specialisation... but I'd rather it stayed in DA1.Saibh wrote...
They want to separate the three classes into clearer roles. Since Arcane Warriors are ridiculously overpowered and take the best of the mage class and warrior class, I doubt we'll see it again.

"Shimmering Shield", third talent of the AW tree, is the "I Win" button. All your resistances (including physical) go through the roof. And we're not talking "just at the lower difficulties" here, either. Even on Nightmare, it might as well be called "kryptonian aura" because you turn into Superman. Certainly, it drains mana constantly... but that is rather easily offset by all the stamina/mana regen armour and items you can find.Shinian2 wrote...

The only beings an Arcane Warrior need fear are Templars. Which is quite fitting.
