Ya, I actually find evil to be boring. I always/usually play good. I have yet to slaughter the mages, recruit the werewolves, kill Connor or his mom, or save the anvil. I've played DA:O 5+ times, too. I doubt I'll ever get those achievements.

Yep, me too. I just don't find that fun.

@ DaerogTheDhampir and errant_knight: Funny, I found siding with the keeper (rather than the werewolves) to be evil. I didn't see it as siding against the Dalish, but rather trying to bring an end to a horrible nightmare.

@ Topic: I almost always play however I would personally respond the first time and refuse to get hung-up on maxing out my meters (this leans towards "good" but is a bit too pragmatic to be pristine), then I go evil but not stupid (why would I slaughter all the mages when they can help with the fight, but I'll happily sacrifice a child to a demon if it gets me more power), then I go "goody-two-shoes" paladin-type.

BioWare evil options are usually of the thuggish variety, though Dragon Age and ME2 have been getting better about it. The problem is that it's way too prevalent in a game where doing something terrible means just killing things for the lulz.

One of the few recent games that I've seen do evil REALLY well is Mask of the Betrayer. Goddamn, what an amazing evil playthrough. It felt like a different game with an entirely different set options catered to being a horrible spirit-eating monster. And the ending...

It had a ton of morally grey decisions too and anti-villains, but if you're a terrible person, it really allows you the ability to not really give a f*ck about any of that in the most selfish manner possible.

I usually go about 50-50 in my playthroughs. Sometimes the more idealistic type, sometimes the more ruthless villain if the game provides me with good options. Dragon Age II looks like it will have a lot of politicking options due to the nature of the Free Marches setting, and I'm really looking forward to playing a scheming, Lawful Evil (my personal favourite alignment) ruler who plays his enemies against one another.

On another playthrough, I'd like to play as the main character of Dostoevsky's Idiot. A saint amongst wolves.

The thing is, the value in being a proper Grey Warden is effectively zero until the endgame. Detecting darkspawn and being immune to the taint seem to be plusses, but the majority of the armies in the game have neither talent handy and do just fine, and you're expected to produce an army that is made up exclusively of people who do not have this talent.
When you talk to Flemeth, she says your power in stopping the blight relates to what you represent (i.e. the Grey Wardens). The issue with that is that there is no Warden authenticity test. Anyone who looks midly capable as a soldier or mage can go around, claim to be a Warden, and with the treaties in hand raise an army to fight the Blight.
Quite honestly, prior to learning that your existence is needed to kill the archdemon, quite literally anyone willing to call themselves a Warden and collect an army and look plausible doing it is a fine replacement for you. So the inherent value in being the last Grey Warden in Ferelden is effectively zero. Which is why your particular life has no value insofar as someone in your party plausibly can take up your mantle. Even someone outside your party could do the same.

Are you forgetting that as a grey warden, you receive visions proving that a blight is happening?

Chaotic Neutral. That is,do whatever you want.I really don't care how i turn out to be since in recent games i have played i choose the decision that gets me the most money. It was a bit different with DAO though since i acted according to Morrigan's "survival of the fittest" thing.

You kids and your new fangled AD&D alignments.  Whatever happened to the good ol' days of just plain Chaos,  Neutral and Law?

Chaotic Good. I like being a cynical sort of rouge with a heart of gold. A character who breaks laws for justice, or because they feel like it.

I'm just hoping the good/evil dialogues aren't like Mass Effect, I want to see variations.

A sarcastic good guy, or a brooding bad guy. Maybe even a Hawke who acts like an ass but really has good intentions.

Not like Shepherd who's either Lawful Stupid or a jerk just for the sake of being a jerk.

Granted though I mostly play good characters....but I did kill the elves just because they were elves.....and Isolde kind of had an annoying voice...so she kind of ran into a blood mage and such.....and I have the "slap morrigan" mod......but other than those incidents I'm usually a shining example to cliche heros everywhere.

Should imagine we get variables because the dialogue changes with some npc's depending on who you have as your companions :)

I'm going to play him as a sort of neutral character.

He's going to be somewhat ruthless in his power grab but only to serve the greater good. He won't be cruel just for the sake of cruelty like Arl Howe.

I love playing Chaotic Stupid characters. Those who make bad choices all the time and still somehow manage to pull it thru (let's face it, that's because game don't let you fail).

Well the decisions you make in DA2 will have more immediate effect so hopefully rather then wait for an epilogue to let you know what happened you will find out sooner so you could have the chance to fail this time around :)

Time to inject some life into the stale morality debate.

My Hawke will be beyond good and evil and possessed by an emotional stoicism demon. He adheres to the Ultraviolet and Infrared morality spectrum. He secretly plans his ascension to godhood via a torrent of blood and rainbows. Orphans will cry with joy and terror as they claw their own eyes out and enjoy delicious candy. His actions will be so incomprehensible that merely witnessing them causes animals to commit mass suicide and his companions to lose and gain multiple approval points before finally the approval bar disappears entirely after they tear their own hair out and chant mad songs in language long forgotten. It shall be called The Chant of Sight.

He will be known only as "The Champion of Kirkwall" in the future in order to not draw his attention, and dreams deep beneath the Free Marches where he plays with the inhabitants of the world for his own amusement, culminating in him telling some mages about some awesome golden city that he dreamed about that was full of beautiful women and riches and the secret password needed to get in without causing a disaster. These Mages have terrible memory and never write anything down.

This is the Story of The Champion of Kirkwall (Whose name is too sacred and powerful to repeat.)
