After u beat the main storyline in ME2 the game makes a save file of your Shepard to Import into ME3. We have the option to play more ME2 via DLC or other side quests we didn't finish. But when we play ME3 will our choices carry over even after we beat ME2's main storyline. I mean when does the game save our shepard choices again in prep for ME3? Does this mean overlord won't count for my Shepard or Kasumi as they were released after I beat the main storyline. Or will Bioware release later an option to save your Shepard Character File right before the release of ME3?

hmm Never thought of it like that....Im pretty sure it would just look at the most recent save for the character...good question though...ME1 didnt have this problem because we where forced to do all the things we could do before beating the final quest...I am curious about this now as well.

I sure hope so. Bioware should really answer this one for all our sakes.

Mass Effect 2 do NOT make any special save file when you are done with collector base from what i saw, it keeps a constant "chapter" file which auto saves everytime you finish missions/travel etc
Do not confuse ME2 with ME, they save in different ways.

This is one I have faith Bioware thought about before it was implemented. Like Crusherix said, there is no special save, the saves keep getting updated after the collector base. I assume they will get imported into ME3 the same way NG+ works, any save made after collector base will work.

When you start a NG+, the info (armor, where your talent points are etc) comes from the very last auto save; ie go to your armor locker and pick what you want to start the new game with, same for bonus power, pick the PISTOL you want in the medical bay to fight the mechs etc, then use the elevator and go to any deck, when you exit you will see the "don't shut off the console,' quit the game/go to the main menu and start the new game with the same character. ALL your talent points are where you had them EXCEPT for the bonus power has 1 + X# available, so allocate the points, equipt the pistol with ? ammo and a way you go.

Just adding in my own 2 cents, the reason ME1 has that special autosave is because it is not possible to save on your own after you defeat Saren. With ME2, since you can continue to play after the Collector base/suicide mission (and there will be ME2 to ME3 connecting DLC, according to BioWare), then they should have already thought that through and there should be nothing to worry about.

ChapterSave.pcsav
There you have your "ultimate save" it saves every variable/decisions you ever make in ME2 from start to finish to dlc and beyond. It constantly saves everytime you interact with npcs, buy stuff, make decisions, completing missions etc etc. Check it up yourself and play some ME2 while tabbing out to see when that file updates if you need to see it for yourself
I promise on my life that that's the file we will use for ME3 and it certanly updates when doing DLC after collector base is dealt with.
And as Aurin sais ME1 have a end save cause you can't continue after anyway hence the chaptersave ME2 got as you can play after the game is "finished/ended". The facts are infront of your face, belive my fellow gamer!
Edit: Casey hudson answered on an article some day ago that obviously every variable/decision etc won't see a followup as it would be pretty impossible for everything to be planned ahead, so if dlc will see followups you'll have to wait and see in ME3. Some will some won't defenetly all of them will not.
