Ah, but a character support thread has purpose - to show support for the character.

Basically, in regards to the points the OP was trying to make:

Tali is a stupid blushing virgin. I disagree.

Tali is infatuated with sex with Shepard to the exclusion of all else. I disagree.

Tali is not focusing on the mission properly. I really disagree. She is even willing to deny her own feelings for the sake of the mission.

Tali is incompetent and weak. I disagree.

The romance consists of Tali crushing awkwardly on Shepard. Whether this is good or bad is totally a matter of opinion.

So basically all your post is explaining is why Tali doesn’t appeal to you personally.

Thus my ultimate response to the entire thing is, sadly, “Thanks for the news flash, Geraldo.”

Precisely. character popularity tends to only be competitive/frictional when it's a love interest.

So bad fanfic is bad.  If you have a problem with bad fanfics, I think you should consider leaving the internet, because its full of **** like that.  Let me start naming off bad fanfic's I've seen...

lol fine heres  a TLDR version of my view:

Tali rommance appeals to horny nerds who get defensive when I do not accept tali as perfect (like you)

thus = I am a troll

The fanfics are just a sign of how most view tali as, a young woman that falls in love with Shepard you
with that in mind, fanfics are fanfics, and they are not an accurate portrayal. But when you read the same crap over and over again, written by many people, you start to get used to what kind of reputation this character has

I've stated, many many times. Tali's fanbase is the largest, and the most vocal. THAT is why her popularity brings character hate.

You're discussing popularity, it is related, but when you put emphasis on the vocal part, it may or may not relate.

...Because Tali fans just happen to have the gall to defend a character they like.

This sort of thing happens to any character, Tali is the most apparent due to the correlation to the size and enthusiasm of the fanbase. Each character has their share of fans, Tali having the largest will always drag with the lowest common denominator. It's still unfair to suggest that only Tali fans are ever guilty of this, noting how often the fanbase is demonized and decried for its meer existance.

Her fans that act like she is perfect and anyone who disagrees is a mindless troll, deserve to get hate. Very few of her fans act that way, but that's their stereotype. People have opinions, and sometimes their opinion dislikes Tali, and if they want they can explain their views. 

I'm pretty sure there has been Jacob hate threads, or at least a thread mocking him. I'm not 100% sure so I won't say it as fact. 

Maybe this thread was made because the OP wanted attention, but since he has been making actual discussion, I doubt it.

1. Wrex isn't a love interest, which tends to be a big factor in people defending or attacking a character.

2. Tali has had over 14k pages worth of fan support. no other character has this vocal a fanbase.

Which brings me back to my original point; Tali's huge, VOCAL fanbase irritates those who arent as big fans of the character. This leads to unnecessary and poorly grounded hate.

Are there reasons to hate Tali? Absolutely. I'm only saying the majority of the hate is fanbase related. Not all of it.
