A few weeks ago I fought Firkraag for the first time. Now I thought this was gonna be hard, since he was a dragon and all. I cast a few lower resistance spells and then cast Finger of Death. It actually worked. I dont know if i got lucky or not XD
I thought Firkraag was supposed to be tough...

You probably got lucky. You also probably went there later in the game (or at least, later in the game than I usually do it).
I remember the first time I fought the last dragon you can fight in Shadows of Amn I did nothing but cast Finger of Death on it, and it went down instantly. That's never happened for me again. I underestimated it rather badly the second time because of that.

You got a little bit lucky (considering you did do nothing to lower his saves - usually, for this tactic, people use greater malison and doom on the dragon), but still, Finger of Death and even Chromatic Orb are amongst the "Dragon Killer" spells. However, in a "fair" fight, Firkraag is not easy, but there are countless ways to outcheese dragons without any big effort.

Shameless promotion to meh own vid.
Very low vid quality, super very low sound quality... made some tactical mistakes (as in, preferring to mace him over casting one final spell).
With the right approach he is quite easy. With the wrong one, you get killed quite easily.
Note : the game's speed was double... because registering more segments of a video because of free version of fraps killed me

Sounds like you're ready for SCSII
A 550-HP meat grinder with greatly superior AI and immunity to instant death effects (the same way ToB dragons are) is a lot more fun than the vanilla article.

Personally my favorite way to bring down a Firkraag is to cast lower res., Doom, and Greater Malison followed by chromatic orb. Very nice dead dragon

Half way through that video, I hovered my cursor over Firkraag and pressed tab.
I am wrong in the head.

The first dragon in Umar Hills is hardest for me, with his nasty level drain breath.

Now that I think about it, on the old boards, we had the art of dragon slaying sticky, had we not? We could use one here too, especially in these quite... dark times.

and here I thought we had reached an age of enlightenment?
Or are you talking about the fact that some many BioWare fans on these new boards have never played BG?

It's more fun to challenge yourself. I had a party of five level 9s and downed him.
To anybody familiar with DnD, yeah, he can be considered easy if you meet him at the recommended levels; it's so much more fun to jump forward a bit and use your brain.
Just on topic, I remember trying to kill him when I was like 13 or so. That, and Kangaxx, made me happy.
