I dunno how I did it, but I got the research for the Cain weapon, the one I really wanted to try.  But I don't have enough minerals....iridium I think?

I have about 16000 and I think I need 20 something 

So what planets are good to mine for this stuff??

Anything rocky-looking. Don't bother mining gas planets; they're hardly ever mineral-rich.

Just mine any planet they give you good amount of each.
