I know this is a weird question, but i ask this because for the human noble origin in DAO, if you create a black or an asian guy, your parents are white and it feels weird. In Fallout3 if you're black, so is your father.

Will DA2 repeat this?

To my knowledge, this is undetermined but extremely unlikely.

If they use the same character builder from dao then i don’t think so unless there is a selection to pick if you are black or Asian.

It's unlikely. They'll probably say either she was adopted or you were or she's just your half sister

Though it could be like in Fallout 3, but won't work with the current character creator

I doubt it. None of the family members in DA:O changed color to match you if you weren't white, (which made little sense for the Couslands in particular) so I don't think they will.

hmm, it's a fair question. I prefer Bethany being your actual sister - not adopted or half sister - so I guess skin color could be an issue. I like her as she is, but a dark skinned Hawke will feel odd if Bethany is Snow White in comparison.

hmmm, i dont see that one coming. besides, it doesn't really make a difference because mods will change the appearance of youre party members like in no time, and im sure therell be a black or asian bethany after a short time...

In Fallout 3's character creator you specificaly chose which race. With DAO's character creator it wouldn't work

Bioware's cinematic vision > diversity > player choice.

It doesn't matter, but either way she dies if I get the chance, but this would be interesting feature depending on how you decide your hawkes. I think i could forgive the whole taking away my dwarves and elves creators if they do this. Getting any ideas bioware?Image IPB

What's your alternative, Khavos? Besides going to the FO3 system, which I wouldn't have a big problem with.

Did anyone ever mod this for the DA1 origins? There's no conceptual problem with having an alternate set of Couslands, for instance.

I don't think so, then the developers wouldn't oppose so much a romance with Bethany

To be fair, the DAO is set in Ferelden, which is basically medieval england (with a kind of "what if the Saxons rebelled against the Norman" alternate history going). The skin colour they gave the NPCs is what you'd naturally expect in such a setting (especially the Couslands... you'd hardly expect a saxon noble family to have moorish traits, for example).

That's extremely lazy on Bioware's part if they dont. All they need to do is changer her skin tone depending on Hawke's skin tone.

Actually, I could expect a Ferelden noble family to have a Moorish look, if Bioware intends to. Other than a sense of continuity, being based on some real world culture is hardly an obstacle for inclusion of something outlandish and foreign (not in creative world-building). In spite of that, Ferelden does not have to be completely another England in a fictional world.

Pretty much this. It would make sense for her to have the same hair color, eyes and skin color as the player created Hawke. It really can't be that hard to implement something like this in DA2.

If they don't then they might as well not allow you to create your own character at all. I mean making her look like you would be on of the first things on their mind after they decided Hawke should have a sister.

even so, either fix up the looks of family members or lower the costumization options even further by removing choices which would make Hawke look as if there is zero blood relation to Bethany to protect immersion

sadly, I think the response would be the latter

Bioware will probably keep your family white no matter what you do with Hawke. It's sort of like the movie, "The Jerk." :D

I know David Gaider responded a while back about this topic:

David Gaider wrote...

You'll find dark-skinned people in the nation of Rivain, which is quite a ways off to the north. This far south those of Rivaini descent (like Duncan, though he is half-Rivaini) are fairly rare. Ferelden is analogous to medieval England, which it is a fictionalized version of.

Could we have included more ethnicities? Certainly -- but our intent was to create an internally consistent setting, not to reflect ethnic diversity as it's found in our own world in modern times. You can create whatever appearance you wish (I'll point out you can make your character look old, as well, despite the assumption within the game that you are young) though it's been mentioned before that we might have considered making in-game parents match skin tone/hair color. It's something we'll keep in mind as a possibility for the future.

Hope that answers your concern.

Well, except that even if they change skin tone and hair according to your own choices, if you create a black hawke Bethany will still look like a very tanned european/caucasian girl
