That means Navin still has a chance. *thumbs-up* :D

Well, except that even if they change skin tone and hair according to your own choices, if you create a black hawke Bethany will still look like a very tanned european/caucasian girl

I don't understand. Besides hair and skin colour, what else could make Bethany look black? The hairstyles in thedas are not exactly analogous to real-world cultures (that dreadlock thing actually seems to be dwarven in origin).

Looking like you belong to a race isn't entirely about skin color. For example:

An albino black woman. Clearly you can see her features reflect her African heritage despite her actual skin tone being pale.

What's your alternative, Khavos? Besides going to the FO3 system, which I wouldn't have a big problem with.

Letting players create their own characters and backstories instead of forcing us to work from the Bioware writers' preferred character and backstory.

So you didn't like having specified origins in DAO either, Khavos?

Just make Bethany's skin slider to be linked with Hawke's skin slider, her skin color is exactly the same as yours. Hair color and eye color can be explained by distinct traits from the other parent (or something).

...Oh. That was quite the relevation. O.o

Wait, wait, I've got an idea! How about if Bethany can be customized by the player immediately after making their Hawke and in much  the same way, except with a few more limits, like you can't put some of the sliders to the complete extreme and make her look like a demonic clown, and maybe her nose shape and eyebrow shape are set.
The game will explicitly state during this creation that Bethany is your character's sister, but still not limit her features to resemble Hawke's.
This way players will feel some measure of attatchment to "their" Bethany, but since they don't quite have full control they still feel more attatched to their own character. If Bethany looks nothing like Hawke well then that's the players fault, not the games! While making their black Bethany for their Asian Hawke the player probably speculated, consciously or unconsciously, about how the heck those barely existent ethnicities of parents were in Thedas anyway.

So when the Templars stab her, or the demons possess her, well you may not have grown up with the girl but dammit, you designed her! And you'll get your revenge! >:o

who cares. making hawke ''black'' in this game means changing his skin colour to a darker shade, he or his sister still wont have traditional negroid features to go along with it.

First of all hilarious post. Second of all you can customize Hawke's facial features like you could Shepards.

There is no "black" race in the DA universe as far as i know. So if you give the PC a dark complexion, that's all it is, nothing says two siblings have to have matching skin complexions.

The Qunari in Origins definitely were.

I disagree that the Qunari were "black." Sten had a darker skin tone, but if you think about it, he was in the sun for 20 days straight in Lothering too.

Anyway, in episode 2 of the DA2 podcast, they said they rebuilt the head morph system from scratch for DA2. So it is a possibility.

I can't believe some people don't understand this.
I
If you change the skin color of a person with caucasian feautures, it doesn't make them look black. It'll just make them look indian at best. You have to entire remake a new face model for black Bethany or shes going to look weird.

Fallout 3 system would fit nice. Some properties of Bethany should be automatically set same as Hawke's. Skin tone, nostril spacing, jaw width etc.

Well there was a couple black couple in europe that gave birth to a blonde haired, blue eyed white baby. Genetic tests proved that the black husband was indeed the father of the apparently white baby. Recessive genes for the win!

I never saw a "black" person of any race. Some darker skin tones, but that's not the same thing. No one looked black in that game, even with the darkest skin tone available.

thats how fall out 3 did it

your character was black, your dad is black, your character was asian, your dad is asian

In Fallout 3's character creator you specificaly chose which race.

Fallout didn't just give you a same-race dad -- he actually resembled you, with features similar to yours -- same nose, etc. It wasn't an exact copy -- he was a "dad-ish" version of you, not your older twin. It was really nicely and subtly done.

We have seen one country/continent in Dragon Age thus far. It would be silly to say in the entire planet in their universe that there isn't any race withe dark skin tones. If Ferledon is based off of medieval Europe it would be silly to think there is no version of African, Asia, India etc.

No, I didn't.  In fact, that's the primary reason I preferred Black Isle's Icewind Dale over Bioware's Baldur's Gate.  Black Isle/Obsidian is usually much better at allowing you to actually create characters rather than forcing you to play their own.  Does the story have to be a little less specific?  Absolutely.  So what?  It's not like Gaider and his boys are Hemingway.  The stories they tell are awfully generic.  They execute the storytelling well, but the story itself isn't the second coming of Tolkien.

It's unlikely. They'll probably say either she was adopted or you were or she's just your half sister

I don't think so, then the developers wouldn't oppose so much a romance with Bethany

WHAT THE **** kind of world do you live in? A half sister is still a half sister bro! You still share 50% gene pool. Even adopted is weird as hell.
