Hello everyone,

I realize that this question may have been asked before. I'm sorry if this is the case, but I really need help with this...

I've scoured all the tutorials about re-coloring armor, but have not been able to find anything about editing the Chevalier's Armor (or King Cailan's Armor). I'm at the part where I have to locate the texture file for it, but I just can't seem to locate it in the texturepack.erf file. (I guess what I need is the .dds file name?)

If anyone knows the name for the texture I'm looking for, I would be eternally grateful!

Also, if anyone knows any tutorials on editing the actual stats of the armor, I would appreciate your advice.

Thank you so much!

There are 5 texture variants for massive armour - pn_arm_masa_0d to pn_arm_mase_0d. They look like this:

Bear in mind that tints play a big role in armour appearance in DA. You'll want to check out the tint maps, named pn_arm_masa_0t to pn_arm_mase_0t.

For stats, you'll need to edit the individual armour's UTI file. You'll also need to edit this to adjust which tint a given armour set uses.

Thanks for this info!

Should already be really helpful - just have to put all of this information together now...looks like this will take me a few days...

Toolset is so much fun, but so time consuming if you're a noob like me >__<

Oh boy...so today I'm trying to open up the tint map from the texturpack.erf file and I'm getting a message saying "Application not found". Then it follows with the message "Cannot open resource..."

What's happening? I was opening these tints just fine yesterday!

You're using the toolset? Try using the standalone ErfEditor.exe in the toolset directory.

Hmm...getting the same message with the ErfEditor.exe ...

"C:\\Docume~\\"myusername"\\LOCALS~1\\Temp\\pn_arm_masa_0t.dds" "Application not found"...

Should it be looking int he temporary folder for this file? Or my documents at all?

You're trying to open the DDS with the ERF editor? A DDS is a texture file. You'll need to use Photoshop or GIMP with the appropriate plugins. You might want to peruse the wiki and do some Google searches. In particular, read these:

Thanks for the links DarthParametric! I'll definitely look them over!

To clarify...

I open up the texturepack.erf file with the ERF editor (or toolset), then right click the actual "0t.dds" file and select "open resource". I have Windows Texture Viewer that usually lets me see the file when I do that. For some reason, however, since yesterday that message popping up when I try to do that...

The tutorial I've been using was from this link:
social.bioware.com/wiki/datoolset/index.php/Tutorial:_Creating_recolors_of_existing_items

I'm wondering if I should just reinstall the Toolset alltogether...

Thanks for being so patient with me and for all your help!

to open or edit dds files you will need the dds plugin for photoshop or a similar plugin for gimp. i don't think that the casual windows picture viewer can handle this task. it's also nice to use the datool. there you can browse through the various armor models and save them in a folder with all the needed resources - better then digging through the erf files manually.

if datool does not save a tint texture of an armor then simply there is none and you have to create it on your own. for this task you have to edit the appropriate mao file and create a dds tint file. but first try to save some models and look at the textures. within the toolset you can create a new tint file and recolor the armor of your choice ;)

Thanks for this information Semper!

One question - is there a way to manually access the .dds files instead of finding them through the "texturepak.erf" file?

Ah, you are choosing "Open Resource". You want to choose "Extract Resource" and save the file somewhere. Then open it with your image editor. Again, you need to read over the available info. The reskinning tutorial I posted a link to above should walk you through the basics of extracting the appropriate files.

It works!

*Bows down in worship*

Thank you so much guys!
I extracted the file and opened it up in Photoshop using the plug-in.
I'm off to work on those tutorials!
