No, they're not.

I need to adjust my monitor then

The picture shows the dwarf as having ashen skin, yes. Dwarves in the game do not necessarily have that. You're looking at early concept art, there.

k, so in other words the image doesn't really mean much to begin with as it is an early concept what still got/gets changed

It elaborates what Matt was talking about with regards to the races, nothing more. They've undergone tweaking since then, though I guess you could use it as a barometer of the changes if you like.

Yes, showcasing both sexes on the cover and making 'choices' into a direct and visible feature of the game is something I've wanted SO much.  Ever since ME1.  With a little big of chargen customization marketing, 'Who do YOU want to be?', and some images of Lady Hawke with Bethany (for more obvious association), it would go a long, long way to help invite more prospective female games (and those that like playing female PCs in general) to the game/franchise.

Sorry, I just have to interject here and say that, while I get what you're going for, I find "you have a choice" to be a pretty weak message. It's not that having choices aren't important, but of all the things you could say about RPG games that might be compelling I'd say the fact that you have options isn't really one of them.

That said, I'd agree that demonstrating there's a game here for female gamers to play is important-- but I also can't deny that a single, consistent and recognizeable face for the game has value. Trying to mix political correctness into that equation (which it does sound like what is happening, here) rather muddies the equation as it becomes a very circular argument. Either way, I'd like to see some more marketing aimed at female gamers myself-- but like I said I don't think focusing on choice is the way to go.

I'm also not sure how this podcast thread got derailed onto this particular topic. So I'm very gently going to suggest that if anyone wishes to discuss marketing towards female gamers, now would be the time to take that to its own thread (or, if you prefer, resurrect one of the threads that has already been raised about it). Much appreciated.
