After the reading of the google doc (thanks again Sir_Occam), I am very and very pleased it mention the Etiopian Churches style. You can't even imagine how pleased I am. Even my pseudo is inspirated by their spiritual leader, called Abouna or Abuna.I really agree they're very intereinsting not only in their design, but also because of their historical background, which can be use in the Dragon Age Chantry's background.
Why?
just take a look in their most religious city: Lalibella and its most famous church :
St Georges (Biet Giorgis).
This city is the replic of Jerusalem, with his river ethiopians consider as the Jordan River.Ethiopia, with the Falasha hitory, is also considered as Beta Israel, perhaps the most ancient and historical living proves of the Biblical Isreal :their culture and habits are quite similar what the Ancient Writings describes, perhaps even more than the actual Israel we know.
And then, the Ethiopian Bible, is the most ancient version (originally written in Ge'ez), so perhaps also the most respected version of the Writings. In more than 2000 years, his religion has not change or even disappear in front of islam expandation.Take a look in Eastern Africa and you will see Ethiopia is the only remain of a Christianism Church, every nearest country have an ilsamic religion. Here is an illustration of the strenght of Ethiopian Church.it has resist time and wars.
And bettween the roman and Ethiopian church, to well understand the differences, one should read the
Kebra Nagast (Glory of the Kings), know as the (true) story of the Ark of Covenant.
And I really think it can be used to illustratre the Chism between the two chantrys of Thedas.
Ethiopian chuches art, habits, etc etc are very different of the Roman chuch. When I transpose those two real Churches, I imagine easily how they fit so well in the Dragon Age Chantry theories.
So, as the podcast retranscription says "
And I've always been fascinated by these monolithic churches in
Ethiopia...very interesting. They're basically carved into the ground
out of these huge, erratic stones that were left there. It's really
interesting-looking. We're exploring those different themes", if the Imperium Church design is inspirated by the Etiopian ones, it's for me a big big big great news.I just can't wait to see how it could be.

Thanks a lot Matt
