Wanna play a Qunari SO bad.

Why yes I *do* play Draenei. They're my favorite WoW race in fact. Anyway I like what I see so far. I won't miss the dwarven ape-arms.

You're favorite race is the blue aliens that came in a spaceship to medievil style world?

Huh. I wasn't aware there were helecopters and teleporters back in the Medieval time period.

Excuse me my spacegoats are purple and white, respectively.

Oh nevermind. Then it's fine.

Thanks for your understanding.

Looks like some cool designs.

EXCEPT THE HUMAN FEMALE. Her body is turned one direction, her feet another. Worse- they're bending that way so it's just not right. Also, the only one on the page with a tattoo and it looks like a beard so she comes off boring. Both the humans look boring, and we have to be them.

Lovin the Qunari though :D

Warhammer has helecopters and it's medieval styled?

With all respect for Victor Wachter and the work the Dev team does - I would like to point out that this search for a new Dragon Age style has made Dragon Age look like every other game out there.

And i simply thinks he's wrong when he says that people couldn't identify Dragon Age Origins from a few photos, DA-O had a very distinctive style that is now replaced by what seems like a hybrid of WoW and the Teen-Titans cartoon, And in my book that's a really sad thing.

Though i hope i change my mind when i see more pictures.

The humans look... like humans. They've always been the least visually interesting in their default state IMO. Not just in DA but across various games.

I know! I know the art style will be good but it bothers me the gender and race I have to play seems... not to have a good concept behind it. I know. I'm an enthusiast. Trust me. But the qunari, elves, and dwarves seem AWESOME. The human woman is so anatomically incorrect I'm just bugged by it. But you know, it's already been said it improves so I'll just finish the podcast and make a more positive post.

So you will accept helicopters in a medieval style world but spaceships are just right out of the question? Interesting.

You get a custom rig! And you get a custom rig! And you get a custom rig!

All sounds good so far. As for the first comment about large elf ears, they were always like that except on the player character, remember? Qunari are good, the draenai picture was a good laugh but there isn't too much similarity other than horns and body build (no tail, blank eyes, hooves, and such as has been said). Rollerderby female dwarves? Didn't think I'd hear that, but I do like the dwarf design.

Elves should be shorter to show their oppressed state, but meh. I'm glad that the species are given more attention. Look forward to next podcast.

Magic spaceships at that. It's not like they're nuclear powered spaceshuttles.

Is it just me, or is there something wrong with human female's legs? Also the dwarf female's head seems to be transplantated from human form and doesn't seem to resemble the previous dwarf features seen in Dragon Age 1.

I hope elves won't be as tall as humans and have red eyes....

About Qunari enough has been said-so a minute of silence over what happened to them.

Yeah that falls under suspension of disbelief. They do have guns but only Dwarf hunters really use them.

Have to draw the line somewhere. Helicopters can be forgiven as a steam punk kind of fantasy, but when space ships are added, it starts to topple into scifi and you begin to question why am I fighting with an axe and wearing chainmail when there is enough tech for me to carry around a laser gun and a powerarmor suit? Warhammer 40k is a nice. Warcraft went down the drain with Burning Crusade for me, but more b/c of the lore mishap and how it was handled, spaceships were also very bad.

I'm digging the concept art. I'm glad to see that there are changes coming to the races. It gives the DA universe a bit of it's own style.

Let's just put this line of argument to rest. The purpose of the concept art is to demonstrate the base body, before you put clothes and armor and whatnot on it. Nobody is running around like they are in the concept art, and our men do own shirts.

And while I am glad you are discussing the art, is anyone actually listening to the podcast that explains it? Context, ya know. These thing work together :)

I'm listening to the podcast!

On the inspirations:  I liked the mentions of looking to other games' art styles.  Fallout and ME did have quite distinctive art styles.  I do agree that DA:O looked a bit generic, apart from the occasional darkspawn body horror.  And I LOVED Throne of Blood, so I'm very happy that's being used as a visual inspiration.  I'm also intrigued by the emphasis on the morality tale.  If DA2 turns out to have morality tale POTENTIAL, depending on how the player makes choices about Hawke, it could be interesting if it's not too anvilicious.

On the new races:  Eh.  Lithe elves and short stocky dwarves.  *yawn*  I think from the concept art, they do LOOK better, if still pretty stock high fantasy.  And I do really like the qunari redesign.

On animation: That was really cool, hearing about the real-life process that goes into the animation.  Mo-cap is a good thing.  Especially since some of the battle animations of DA:O, especially for the mage, looked downright silly.  This is one area that could really use some improvement in DA2.

On the framed narrative: So...the framed narrative is a justification for the new art style?  It's a...creative solution, if a bit of an ass-pully one.  Then again, as long as you guys aren't venturing into JRPG territory of silly, I'm ok with it.

On the community:  Yes, we're highly crazy.  But only because we love you all so much!  RUV!

On Hawke's customization:  Wow, rebuilt head morphs?  Why didn't they do that for ME so MSheps don't look for fugly?  That makes me very very happy.  I also call BS on the whole "ownable character" thing.  Mass Effect did fine with Sheploo, and you guys did just fine in DA:O with the default Human Male Noble.  Also, Garrett is the default male Hawke's name?  That...actually doesn't sound so bad.  Better than Mike.  Custom rigs also make me happy--no more she-hulk walk!

On the Free Marches:  Ooo, evil Ellis Island times a million for Kirkwall's architectural look   ME LIKEY.  ME VERY LIKEY.  And I really dug all the comments about Kirkwall's political situation spilling over into its visual style.  I'm probably most excited for this.  Thanks so much, Matt and Victor!

And teleporters?

Anyway I guess we should stop derailing this thread with WoW talk.

I really like the new elves. I was worried, but nothing too outlandish seems to have happened. The taller the better, in my eyes, so although the relative heights might not be accurate in the concept art, as long as they don't get shorter I'll be happy. All in all, they're looking pretty good. :)

The problem with the human female leg is that they are drawn with the right leg going backwards while somehow the right hip is going forward. Disturbing.

I like the rest of it though.
