... still, I am unable atm to listen to the podcast, we don't have a predetermined unchangeable first name I hope?

No, no.  Unless they really want to shaft us all by making everyone named Garrett Hawke, even the ladies :o  It's like Mass Effect, where default MShep is named John Shepard, but you can customize the first name.

We've gotten the male default name. Bioware don't be sexiest and give us the female too! X3
No...?

It's Hawke for both, isn't it? Please don't bring up ridiculous charges of sexism over simple issues.

The sexism was a joke, and I mean the first name, it's mentioned in the podcast.

Garrett Hawke.  It certainly sounds less stupid than some of my contributions on a very early joke thread.  The Artist Formerly Known As Hawke, Black Hawke, Star Hawke...

Moh Hawke and Ebon Hawke

No it's just the default name. Like Aedan Cousland was the preset HNM.

You can change first name, that is confirmed. My mage will be named Nyruk no matter what the last name is, but the supposed default name sounds good for my warrior or rogue.

We have months to go, and therefore more images to help you form your opinion between now and then.

Just curious, would there be a possibility of a DA2 character creator for us to play with prior to release?

Hmm interesting they say we are going in our own direction then use thsoe stupid night elf ears and the dwarfs suddenly resemble warhammers dwarfs.... coincidence?

Oh come on. The ears may stick out a bit more but they're nothing near that exaggerated <_<

Oh! so this is "our own direction" making the stupid ears not stick out as much?

Yes please! Character creation is one of my favorite parts of playing any game with a customizable character. I'm totally serious.

I was meh on a character creator until I heard in the podcast that we get shiny brand spanking new head morphs, complete with (hopefully) less Uncanny Valley!  Now I really want to play around with character creation.

Am I the only excited at the prospect of new underwear? :D

The lady qunari is very gorgeous, as is the lady dwarf, though the human female bears too strong of a resemblance to Keira Knightley for my liking.
…forgive my saying so, but the human male is giving me serious Sheploo vibes. (and I wish all the ladies had something more in the way of, you know, ribcages.

What I'd really like to see for dorf men are stocky, wiry types, with close cropped beards a la Greagoir or something. That would have much more sex appeal than the stereotypical motorcycle-gang looking dwarfmen.

That being said, really looking forward to listening to the podcast tonight! I love love love hearing about art R&D and concept art and so on. :)

Listening right now. If I can make my face like I did in Oblivion (as horrid as that game was) and less like my avatar right now, I'm happy.

The Qunari female is impressive, especially if she fights without armor. Evading blows is better than taking hits in heavy plate.

yeah, yeah, Sten gave a monologue about women not fighting but there's always an exception to the rule. A warrior priest, maybe.

I think "our own direction" has more to do with the face. It's very... flat ? The nose is very straight down.

I think the real thing we should take away is that beards are confirmed for human females from the concept art. Clearly, the beard of Hawke will be plot central. In fact, I vote for DA: The Beard of Hawke as an official title.

On a serious note, I really can't see the changes to the dwarves and elves. From the picture it seems the qunari are actually shorter than before and the dwarves are taller, but that's about it. And what's with the qunari being hunched over, while the female isn't. I wonder if that's just the pose.

I can't.  I'm not pretty or beardy enough :P  But my best friend and I are going as Katara and Toph, respectively, for SDCC 2011, and I want to see a Hawke there.

Is there "our own direction" when it comes to premade fantasy races/species? Not sure you can have a lizard person and call it a dwarf w/o upsetting people. Elves have pointy ears. Stick out or not stick out, I think all ear variants have been done before.

If they showed us what a female Hawke looked like I would consider it.

Must say I found the whole discussion interesting. The inspirations and motivations I liked a lot.

A lot of good stuff going on there. I'll be interested to see how much that Throne of Blood feel affects no so much character models but the feel of the world.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread that it's not to scale. I assume the Qunari are bigger and the elves smaller in the game, but who knows?

Ah, I was skimming and missed that. It would make sense if it was true.

You know what would be awesome? This year, there was a group photo of about 25 Harley Quinn's. A group photo of Hawke's would be epic.
