I hope I don't offend anyone...but I always saw the soldier and engineer the weakest of the ME classes....

but after watching soem of Gatsby's vids, they look pretty cool Posted Image

I tried solider in ME1... was ok....I just hated not being able to do anything....

So is the Soldier worth a try in ME2? A good build? I'd want sqaud cryo if that is possible...

Soldiers are awesome, you have best weapon for every situation, extremly powerful skill - Adrenaline Rush, you also have the most health by far. It is one of the most powerful classes in the game. In ME1 you were invincible, in ME2 you can actually die, but you gotta try really hard :D

soldier's the weakest in mass effect? having every gun, adrenaline rush, etc?... are you serious?
yet with pointless magic/biotic is more effective or something... atleast with soldier you can take out multiple targets at once with guns and **** vs. using some gay ass biotic power and then have to recharge and ****... or using the vanguard charge power to then get your ass kicked for getting up close and personal with a krogran or something...

i rather take cover being a armed-and-ready soldier regenerating his health than some pointless adept recharging their gay ass magical powers, and health at the same time being somewhat vulnerable...

you constantly have to use your space magic over and over again on the same targets to get results. vs. just using your space commando stuff.

The Soldier class is beast, but because it doesn't have powers, it isn't very popular unlike Infiltrator or Vanguard.

Soldiers in Mass Effect 1 could literally stand in open field filled with soldiers and not die ON INSANITY. You'd stand there and win without a sweat.

Ok... well using the sniper as a ME1 soldier totally sucked....admit it LOL

Ok what's a good build? I never looked at soldier profiles...I cannot imagine what a bonus weapon/talent could possibly be

Not really. Soldier is actually the most popular class - by far, according to the official poll on BW site.

Soldiers are more fun in ME2 since they improved the shooter aspect of the gameplay so much.  I've completed a Vanguard and an Engineer so far, and have started a Sentinel, Infiltrator, and of course Soldier.  With the Soldier I enjoy utilizing whatever weapon and ammo is best for every scenario.  And yes you can have Squad Cryo, in fact that's in my planned build:

4 Hardened Adrenaline Rush
0 Concussive Shot
4 Heavy Disruptor Ammo
4 Inferno Ammo
4 Squad Cryo Ammo
4 Commando
1 Neural Shock/Slam

Well that's my planned Revenant/Geth Plasma Shotgun/Viper Soldier.  Squad Cryo providing crowd control no matter what the enemy type, while Shepard has the two heavies for big damage and crowd control on both enemy types, synthetic and organic.  Hardened Adrenaline Rush and Squad Cryo help keep Shepard out of cover and shooting those guns.

I've also considered making a Widow/Mattock/Geth Plasma Shotgun Soldier, but since I'll taking the Widow on my Infiltrator I figured I should take this chance to get the Revenant a try.  Still if I did make this Soldier, I'd want to focus trying to get 1s/1k with the Widow.  I'd probably build it like this:

4 Heightened Adrenaline Rush
0 Concussive Shot
4 Squad Disruptor Ammo
4 Squad Incendiary Ammo
1 Cryo Ammo
4 Commando
4 Heavy Warp Ammo

Squadmates will provide some crowd control with Squad Disruptor for synthetics and Squad Incendiary for organics.  Shepard will use the Widow to get 1s/1k on enemies with Heightened Adrenaline Rush, Heavy Warp Ammo, and Squad Disruptor.  One point Cryo is for the heavy pistol, and sometimes the shotgun.

This is just my opinion:

Personally, I always pick the Armor penetration ammo and use that over the rest because it's amazing and saves a lot of points from the other armor abilities you can spend on. Then I'd probably work on getting the secondary class (Shock Trooper or Commando) before focusing on Adrenaline Rush (it's still rather good in it's initial rank so I'd rather just buff up health / dmg but that's just me).

I'd then upgrade my Armor pen ammo and go for Concussive Shot for last. You'll have a few extra points to waste in ammo afterwards.

AP ammo (Tungsten) is not worth taking as a Soldier, Inferno is simply better.

Really? I found the AP ammo to be amazing on Insanity, I must explore this..

Anything else I should know?

Of course :)

And no, quite the contray, that is not fail at all.  Reave can be a great compliment to Soldier.  Reave is very powerful, in fact too overpowered, in my and some other player's opinions here, and that is the one big reason I didn't use it.  The other reason is because with my Soldier, I want to be hitting Adrenaline Rush as often as possible and keep shooting.  If I get in a jam, I want to be forced to get out of it the Soldier way, by switching to the right weapon and the right ammo type at the right time.

That is all just personal preference though, feel free to use Reave if that's what you like.  Though if you are planing on using that Revenant build as a guideline and want Squad Cryo Ammo, I don't think you'll be able to max Reave.  I guess you could leave Disruptor Ammo at rank 2 instead, allowing you to bring Reave up to Rank 3 and Concussive Shot to rank 1.  Then you could just spend the eezo to respeccing out of Inferno ammo and into Disruptor for Geth missions, respeccing back afterward.

Soldier's by far the best and imo, the most fun to play. You got a gun and bullet time to handle every scenario.

Just use the Vindicator AR and the Widow SR. I blew threw insanity with those 2 on my soldier.

Soldier is the easiest class to play. It's very, very hard not to be able to kill something and AR minimizes chances of screwing up.

The soldier class fills my Rambo/Duke Nukem needs. Biotics and abilities are all well and good, but there's something to be said for being able to wade into the thick of it and having your pick of weapons.

Soldier works just fine with the weapons that are available in the basic vanilla game. The only dlc weapon Simbacca was talking about on on his Revenant build is the geth shotgun. You can get by quite well with the Scimitar instead.

Of course, Soldiers were great before the new pack too. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/wink.png[/smilie]

You can use the Eviscerator or the Scimitar instead of the GPS, whichever feels better to you.

I get the impression you going to go with the Revenant build, so the Viper sniper is already a standard weapon.  If you go with the Widow build, the Vindicator works just as well as the Mattock.

Don't know what you're asking, but yeah you'll want all the Sniper, AR, Shotgun, and Heavy Pistol upgrades.

Eviscerator is very powerful (and you can get the Claymore on Collector ship) - with AR enabled; the Evi will kill most enemies wih a single shot (close range)

Best AR is the Revenant - no dlc needed; Vindicator is awesome too.

Best SR for Soldier is the Viper (no dlc) - this gun rocks with AR.

Soldiers already have a phenomenal weapon selection without dlc, just try them all and find out for yourself ;)
