So last night I was trying to figure out how to create my own GDA file in order to make it so that areas will not scale based on what level I am.
I opened areadata.xls and basically just changed all the values in the "minlevel" column. So an example would be, if an area was originally scaled from 10 - 20, I would just change it to 20 - 20. The only exception were areas that had a prefix of "ran". I assumed that meant it was a random encounter while traveling from place to place, and I just didn't think it would be right to force the player to defeat level 20 monsters at level 5
I compiled the areadata.XLS file into a GDA file.. Strangely it made 2 files. One called areadata.GDA, and one called something like scaleparty.gda (can't remember for sure, and it's not in front of me).
So I moved areadata.GDA into my Override folder where all my other mods are installed, and loaded up the game. My question is - How do I know if it's working? I loaded my current game and went to an area I hadn't been yet (Haven), and it didn't seem very difficult, though I was expecting it to kick my butt (My char's are about level 11-12).
-Is there a way to tell if it's working? How can I know the level of the enemies I'm fighting?
-Was my modding process correct? Am I doing everything right?
-Can I create my own sub folder in the Override folder for my new GDA file? Does it matter what I call it?
-Anyone know if that scaleparty.gda (or whatever it was called) that got created along with my areadata.gda needs to be used also?
Thanks for the help.
