You know, I'll support the new Qunari look. I mean, it's nice, don't get me wrong. I've always loved Tieflings and Draenei. Well, let me rephrase. I'll support it so long as I get a Qunari romance option.

Muhahaha.

Not a huge fan of Elves having the facial structure of Na'avi though...

Apparently Qunari romance is pretty much the same as a deep Qunari friendship, so you kind of already did have one with Sten.

I suppose they do look kind of like Na'vi, huh? We called it in that qunari thread, too! Yeah... in one of those 54 pages, anyway.

I don't like furries, it is like having fantasies about Chewbacca, on the other hand I like cat girls (nekomimi), but those are nothing else than humans with cat ears being cute anyway

now that this is clarified, back on topic on how much DA2 won't resemble Warhammer or Warcraft =]

That whole narrow face with large eyes thing way, WAY predates the Na'vi and James Cameron's blue CGI wankfest.  It's just that that's what made it more or less a part of public consciousness.  It's a pretty stock trope of a lot of elves...basically most high fantasy elves or elf-like species apart from Tolkien elves, who appear more regal and less waifish.

Heh, I can clearly visualize how the Stan fans who disapprove of the new qunari look with the same narrowed eyes right now :P

It's way beyond that though; the face, the eyes, the hair.

I reeeeeallly, REALLY want to play as a female Qunari/Tal'Vashoth now. Bioware, please make it so in a future game!

(yes I do have several Draenei and I'm not ashamed.)

Yeah, same here.  I think every race looks better after the redesign: cleaner, more distinct.  I especially like the subtle differences to the elves and dwarves, and I love the lack of orangutan arms for the dwarves :D

They seem to have fixed them for the dwarf females and given to them to the elf females instead.

Not a fan of the elf ears sticking out sideways.  DAO concept art had them upright and modestly sized.  Just from a practical standpoint, how do ears like that not flop like a donkey's unless they are made of hard cartilage, in which case I feel sorry for elves trying to sleep on their sides.

The similarity to the Na'avi seems more than incidental, right down to the looped braids.

Really? I don't think I've ever seen an elf look like that previously. Angular and narrow faces sure, but not that strange nose/eye combination.

I actually really like the height of the elves in this piece. I never had a problem with it in Origins, but the way they appear to be more or less "on par" with the humans (in terms of height and not necessarily "bulk") in this piece is pleasing to me.

I think that when I look at the elves of this concept art I can sort of see an uncanny resemblance to humans--and that creeps me out in a good way; contrary to some people, I never really thought the elves in Origins were just short, "inferior" clones of humans. Posted Image

Overall, I really like how each of the races look in this particular work and I wouldn't be displeased if their appearances in the game reflect how they look here.

I never thought that the elves' height made them look like inferior clones. I like how they gave the impression of having a more slender and delicate bone structure. The thing I didn't like about them was how generally unattractive they looked when they were supposed to have a superhuman beauty.

I can sympathize with you on that point.  Posted Image

So you're picturing animalistic ears that swivel as opposed to human style ear construction?  Posted Image  I suppose it would help give rise to the opinion that elves are animals rather than people.

Big ears sticking somewhat sideways? That didn't seem new to me, the dalish and Shianni (or w/e her name was) had large ears that didn't go straight up or were modest in size. Honestly, the only elf ears of modest size was the player elf's ears, but that was b/c of clipping issues, elves have big ears, why they are called "knife-ears." I'm just glad they didn't increase the size even more.

the eyes? The elf eyes do not take up half the face.
The face? They look like traditional slender/lithe elves to me, with ears slightly back instead of straight up.
The hair? looks like a slight chinese/mongol influence to me. Looks like the male elf should hold a katana or one of those chinese swords whose name escapes me atm.

But hey, if you guys see blue cat people, that's fine by me, I just don't see any real significant similarities.

The elves in D&D fall pretty squarely under this trope, especially the avariel.  The art for elves in BG2 highlights this fairly well.  Drow also fall under this trope, though the dark skin makes them a bit more distinctive.  Pointy-eared races in JRPGs also do this a fair amount of the time; in fact, the facial structure of the elves is where I'd say the JRPG influence is strongest.

People/humans are animals, too. I think it would be awesome if elf ears acted like that instead.

All this talk of elf ears reminds me of World of Warcraft, a sad elf's ears would bend down and make them have a sad puppy look while a happy elf's ears would stand more upright.

I gave desert fox as an example for "no-flop" with large ears, but if you say elves are animals then sure, they are, just like humans

and humans can also move their ears around, atleast a few

Most elven NPCs had very modest sized, upright ears.

"Knife ear" can simply refer to them being pointed.

The wide-set, large eyes, flat, cat-like brow/ nose and looped braids are pretty much exactly the facial structure of the Na'avi.
