Oghren needs to come back in some capacity.

Anyhow, I don't see any reason for why Oghren would be in Dragon Age 2. After the events of Origins, he figured his ultimate calling was to be a Grey Warden. If he doesn't end up dying, he's serving with the Fereldan Wardens at Vigil's Keep. There's no real reason for him to travel across the sea into the Free Marches. Besides, the whole "schleets" incident emphasizes how jittery he is about the surface world. He's freaked out enough by the sky; you think he'd be willing to said across the sea to a foreign land?

Besides, doesn't he have a wife and kid to take care of, now? He needs to go spend some quality time with his family.

I highly doubt we'd run into Zevran at any point. All things considered, Zevran is the person most likely to die in Origins. Y'know, what with the whole assassination attempt and the potenial betrayal in the endgame.Patriciachr34 wrote...
I'd rather run into Zevran than Oghren. I'm just not a huge fan.

The game presents its Dwarves as a normal-speaking people, but Oghren, for whatever reason, is the only Dwarf that has the stereotypical "Dwarf" voice. It stands out, and its honestly just grating on its own. As I said, I love Blum's work, but this style just does not suit his voice.
Once we get to Awakening, the character itself is just a walking parody and will only go downhill with more appearances. I'm sure some people laughed at his joining antics, but for me it was just terrible. The character archetype that the writers are trying to make Oghren fill falls flat when he can't take any situation seriously; it is the dichotomy between such a character's lightheartedness and his or her sense of the gravity of grave situations that makes the character interesting. Without this, it is simply annoying and woefully out of place amongst characters that can perform this.

I wish we didn't have to take an npc unless we really wanted to. I don't want to be forced to take someone I don't like in order to complete the plot.

If I have to see Ogren, and hear the word "sodding" one more time, I'll break my game disk. Ogren was barely tolerable in Origins, awful in Awakening, and I hope he's down with the Legion of the Dead for the rest of the DA franchise.

That sounds like a sodding good time.

Oghren is a dwarf that almost every video game and fantasy book HAS and exactly that´s why lots of us don´t like him.
While I can understand why some people didn't like him, he was not actually your standard issue drunken dwarf. He was more a send up of that stereotype. His drinking problem was presented AS A DRINKING PROBLEM, not something lovable and standard issue for all dwarves in the setting. If you take him to the Gauntlet or the Fade in Origins, it's actually all quite sad. I didn't especially like the fact that he forgot he and I were totally BFFs when I ran into him again in Awakenings, but his touchiness and such seemed like a natural progression. He had not yet hit rock bottom in Origins.
Oghren is a lot deeper than people give the poor guy credit for!
That said, I don't need him back in DA2. :innocent:

Oh god I hated his Joining scene in Awakening. I remember first playing it and watching Oghren step up to take a sip out of the cup, and thinking "oh god I hope they don't do something stupid like make him burp"...yeah, we know how that turned out. I'll have to agree with the majority on this thread...I've had more than enough of Oghren. He was largely comic relief in Origins but was a fairly shallow character...other characters also provided some comedy but also had other aspects to their personality (Alistair, Zevran, etc.). It seemed all Oghren had was fart and beer jokes, and that got old real fast. It only went downhill in Awakening...I don't know who considered him an "old favorite" but it certainly wasn't me.
Also, is it just me, or does anyone else get the nagging feeling this thread was intentionally started to get people riled up?

A cameo is fine with me, but a big no as a companion.. Time for some fresh blood.
