Hold position and other commands?

For instance, I'm trying to scout ahead stealthily with my rogue and my other characters follow her. I can go into behaviors and change it, but that seems pretty cumbersome. Is there some way I can issue a Hold command on the fly? Help me out here.
Thanks.

( seem to remember E but not sure which is which, been a while )
then you get a popup menu of party commands, you can drag icons to the hotbar.

You do have to go through the process of dragging the icons to each individual character's hotbar, but you only have to do that once, for each character. Save the game after you do. Characters will not have the new icons on their hotbars in old saves.
When I get a new companion, I add these to their hotbar: Attack, Follow me, Hold, and Protect me.
I try to put them in the same order and roughly in the same place for each character.

7, 8, 3, alternate 7 for spellcasters.
I also put the Group Search Mode (VDE?) on 9, individual Search and Stealth on 5 and 6.

I always forget to use the number keys to fire off those bad boys

I'm completely new to NWN2, and haven't played NWN1 in years. I'm at the point in the OC where I have the first 2 party members (a warrior and a thief) and the battles are pretty frustrating. I even tried switching off AI during a battle (avoiding spoilers, but in a house with bandits) but the camera swooshing back and forth makes things confusing as well.
I guess I need more practice. Any other tips you can give are appreciated. Thanks.

The space bar is your friend!
Make sure you're updated. (v1.69)
Ask questions on this forum, or search nwn2forums.bioware.com.
Utilize nwn2db.com. This site kicks butt and will help you with character leveling.
When stuck, use a walkthrough. I like thieves-guild.net. Others like gamebanshee.
Mess with the camera settings. A lot of players use "Exploration Mode" (toggle camera mode using "*").
After going through a transition, the building you just exited may block your view of your party. I just press the "w" key to walk forward a few steps.
Keep casters back and melee guys up front.
Consider installing Tony K's AI mod. Gives more settings to control your party. It bugs me when they do stuff like sucking down health potions like its water.
There's a 2-3 places where you're supposed to talk to someone and your cursor will not give you the "talk" icon. You'll have to right click and select "talk" to fire the conversation.
Throw stuff you want to keep into a bag and leave it somewhere if you don't want to lug it around. Just before changing Acts, go back and pick it up.
Stick with it. The OC doesn't really grab me until near the end of Act I.
Welcome back!

Do a lot of you guys just turn off AI?
Thanks for all the info Axe_Edge. Keep it coming, all.

I'm finding that unless I turn off AI, one of my guys will start chasing after an enemy and I usually don't notice until too late and he's in the middle of a bunch of monsters. Again, turning off AI completely works, but this seems drastic.

Well, for at least somewhat challenging combats I like using the "semi turn based" mode enabled by installing the complete Tony_K's AI mod. It pauses for each character every 6 seconds in combat and switches control to whichever character has his "turn" now. It makes for a totally different, tactical experience, brings control over party members to a new level and is actually very fun in challenging encounters. It can be a bit slow for very easy encounters though (but you can always disable it). For me it's the way NWN2 should be played.

Use the "guard me" command VWF instead of "attack" VWE. That will prevent them from going too far away. Usually. Although some AIs, like the Paladin for example, are actually programmed to ignore that on occasion.
Another handy key is "x". This will take control of ALL your characters. You can then click on the floor - or one enemy - and they'll all try to move/attack there. "x" again reverts to normal.
And "tab" - this selects the nearest enemy - or the next one, or no. 3 and so on if repeated. You can then attack the selected enemy by typing "t." Really the only way to do arrows, warlock blasts and the like. It's also handy for spells and melee attacks, but less so.
oh, p.s. I hardly use puppet mode at all. Let the npcs be np.

Yes, I use the space bar often. Really often. I wish there was a "Pause on Enemy Sighted" option like in the Baldur's Gate games. That was the only auto-pause feature I used, but boy was it handy. Though it doesn't happen really often, the most annoying thing about NWN2 so far is when a party member silently runs off after an enemy completely unnoticed. The 3D aspect and camera makes it really easy to not notice it happen.

Theres an option in the 'Character' section? of the Main Options I think that lets you turn off camera focusing on the character you select...
Turn that off and it becomes a WHOLE lot less zip zappy when selecting characters in exploration and stratergy mode... now if only you could stop the camera in chase mode from reseting back to directly behind the character when you move, id be a happy imp.
Although you might have to turn that option off indirvidually for all 3 camera types (although the 360 chase camera hasnt got that option).
And yeah, id turn AI off and just pause often or issue commands with the right mouse button... also noticed no ones mentioned that if you right click on screen (but not on a character) you get a global broadcast for orders, while right clicking on a specific character and issuing commands will only given that order to that specific character.

I'm enjoying the game though. It is really, really easy so far though, and I have it set to D&D Hardcore rules. I'm not at all bragging, as I thought the first NWN was challenging at normal level, and BG1&2 I had to play parts on Easy.
Does NWN2 OC ever get any harder? I'm in Neverwinter in the Back Alley right now, without giving any spoilers. I have not died once, nor has any of my party. I'm playing a Bard/Fighter and I take off my armor to cast spells sometimes. A few times I forgot to put it back on, got into battles and STILL lived even though I didn't realize until after the battle. That's kind of silly.
