Posted ImagePosted ImageDo you think we'll have more companions than in Origins or less?  The newest info says that we'll have at least two of each class as companions.  We already know about Bethany, though we don't know if she's actually considered a companion or not.  What do you think and what do you want?

I won't protest against more as long as depth of character isn't lost.  I also hope we get a nice variet of class types; the first game did a pretty good job at it.  I also wonder if we'll get ONLY two per class or multiples of some.  I think mages could use more than three since there're so many different possible builds with mages.

PS. I'm aware there's a what companions do you want thread.  I was trying to focus this one on numbers of members and class balance within the party.

As long as there isn't an over abundance of romance options.

I'm still tired of playing Mass Effect 2 and having everybody and their mother flirt with me.

It is the code of the universe and the meaning of life.

Posted ImagePosted ImageIt happens to me a lot lately and I can't figure out why.  Hopefully this post doesn't do it.  If it does, I suppose I'll erase it too.

i think there should be only two or three companions , totally mandatory to stay in your party . Mass effect was like pokemon ranch, way more companions then you cared for and resulting much less dialogue during the levels .

The way I read the quote about at least two of each class (I don't feel like retrieving it) was that it meant we wouldn't have a party that large, but there were enough potential companions. So I think the party set-up won't be the same every time you play through as there will be more potential companions than you can have in one game.

Like being unable to have Loghain and Allistair. Your choices affect which one will join you.

Personally, I believe it's because we'll have temporary companions that serve and follow us until a certain time. Like.. a pirate follows you because you're after the man who killed his crew, he serves with you for two years and after killing the man he thanks you and goes his own way. Ten years is a long time to follow somebody, people will no doubt die or leave.

My money would be on this as well. You may have one or two who will stick by you the entire time but I doubt they all will.

I could also see somebody romancing somebody before they leave and then they stay at your side through the game.

Less is more, give me just enough companions to round out a party that have a ton of deep dialogue between the character and each other, more scripted events within the world to give them more life in your journeys, and more intricate back stories and quests.

In a perfect world, I've love all the companions they could find to throw at me! Unfortunately, if that results in less content for each, I'm not interested.

I'd rather 10 amazingly complex companions than 1, but I'd rather 1 amazingly complex companion than 10 boring archetypical nobodies.

Even DA:O's companions weren't fleshed out enough, outside of the LIs and Wynne.

BETHANY: Mage

VARRIC (heavily rumored): Fighter (?)

FLEMETH (rumored): Mage

So, considering we will have two of each class as companions, and we have three classes, we'll have up to six (including Bethany). So if it is just classes and not subclasses, there are five companions we don't know of.

But if we have subclasses involved, which is highly likely, then we have six more. Then, we'll have a total of twelve companions (including Bethany).

A dirty dozen.

I have no idea on an exact number I would like to have.  I would like enough to add to replay value for the game but a small enough amount so that each character is rather unique in both class/party role and in personality/story.

Also, I think it would be interesting if some of the companions left for awhile and then came back to help or hurt you later based on choices you made. [edit] rather than just walking off into the sunset one day to only be heard from again on an Epilogue card [end edit]

I'd be pleased with the same number that DAO had and hope each has a bit more dialogue. In ME2 I thought there were too many, there was just this large group of people on my ship and you didn't get to know the last few who joined anyway. I actually wouldn't like too many companions a big crowd just gets confusing.

So I guess I'd rather have fewer companions that are more fleshed out than the other way around.

And please make BOTH rogues good at lockpicking. Zevran didn't have any lockpicking skill at all and it was annoying as hell when you pretty much HAD to have Lel if you wanted to open chests.

We know there will be at least 6. But I agree that being able to have a party of all one class would be pretty awesome. Though like most people I would rather have quality over quantity when it comes to companions.

I also hope those re-spec tomes from awakening are available. I like being able to completely rebuild my companion's stats, they don't always start with what I need especially if I pick them up later in the game.

Amusing anaology but I agree.

I want companions I can USE.  Not like Final Fantasy 9 where most I left back at the camp except Vivi, Dagger, and that knight dude.  They were my core party.

That is why I loved FF 10 because I could constantly switch people out during a battle.

I was a bit bummed because there were so many fighter companions.  But I hope I could also customize them more in specs.  When I saw Morrigan's or heck even Anders skills .. they were all over the board.  I would rather them allow me to set their skills while everything else is already there, or have them in a set spec.

I did like (which I found out much later) is that in DA:O if you put in a companion you haven't used a  while they catch up their leveling, like KoTOR did.  Please keep that. It helped a ton during the end game.

Well, there have been implications that you can have your entire four man party be one class, so that lends credibility to the twelve companion myth.

I wonder if there will be more events where your companions die but not by killing them yourself.

It takes place over ten years, the roster of companions could be pretty fluid with them coming and going throughout the game.

But hopefully not too much.

i had thought that the people whited out on the cover art were the companions but there is about 14 there which seems excessive.

One of them will be Flemeth, regardless, I think.

Flemeth always feels more like the backround manipulator, going around making sure things fall into her schemes (such as was the case with Morrigan and the Dark Ritual).

It will certainly be fun when the people start filling in. I betting they will be interactive, taking you to a mini-bio.
