Actually, as I was writing this, I did a little investigating, and apparently, in the case of a Cleric dualed to a Thief, your Simulacrum (cast by using the Vhailor's Helm) does NOT give you access to any cleric spells until your Simulacrum's thief levels are higher than your Cleric levels.
My thief is currently level 18, and he'll have to reach 28 before his Simulacrum is a lvl 17 thief/16 cleric. Formula being Casters level (28) - (total levels ([28+16] / 4 = 11) = final level for active class I guess.
I just tested this out with my 9 Berserker/12 Mage, which creates a lvl 7 mage/9 berserker, and I'm still able to cast spells, albeit with only the capabilities of a lvl 7 mage.
I guess with regards to simulacrums, if you duel FROM a caster to another class, your simmy cannot cast any spells at all, unless the simmy's active class (also the PC's active class) is greater than the inactive caster class? Or is this just a unique problem with Clerics > Thiefs? Or perhaps this is just an issue with casters dueled to non-casting classes. I'm assuming that a mage dualed to a cleric would still be able to cast at least Cleric spells with the simmy?
