As a shortcut on Windows 7, you can always right click any program and choose "Troubleshoot Compatibility," and Windows will choose the right settings for your install. If you have more problems, can you give me a rundown of the installation procedure with the EA download manager? I've honestly never used it, but if you can give me some pointers on how it works, I might be able to help you troubleshoot it.

I don't think it's your antivirus, but you might want to turn it off just in case. Also, maybe give the procedure a try after you've turned off the UAC. I'm trying to do a little Googling around to see if there's a way to get around the compatibility problem. It looks like there are issues with the download manager itself and Windows 7.

Edit: I did come across a "solution," hopefully. It looks like you need to uninstall and reinstall the EA Download Manager itself, making sure to allow its installer to run as administrator, and setting compatibility mode to an earlier OS. The site I read suggested running it in Windows 2000 compatibility mode, but I'm sure XP Service Pack 2 would work just as well. It's probably easiest to just right click the download manager install file and "Troubleshoot Compatibility," just to make sure the settings will work. Windows has as yet to let me down with that little utility.
And apparently some firewalls and antivirus programs have "issues" with it. But since it sounds like the files downloaded all right, so that might not be an problem for you. Before you hit "play" to try to install Dragon Age again, after reinstalling the download manager, turn off your antivirus and allow it through your firewall. Also, just in case, temporarily disable UAC (Control Panel > System and Security > Change User Account Settings) until Dragon Age is installed.

No, you don't suck at searching-- there just don't seem to be any real answers out there. The closest thing I could find was this, and the poor guy's still waiting for a working answer.

When you're feeling more like dealing with your PC again, could you check to see what directory the download manager stored your downloaded files in? I'm wondering if setup.exe is in that directory... Probably a pipe dream, but it might be worth checking out. If it is, I wonder if you can do a manual install from there after tweaking the compatibility settings. Sorry if this post is going all over everywhere, but I just installed EADM just to see what it's all about. Apparently, unless you changed the default folder where files are stored, it should be here:
C:\\ProgramData\\EA Core\\cache\\EADM\\
Editing with a new thought: First, though, try hitting "Start Download" again, now that you've reinstalled the download manager with admin/compatibility settings. If it's anything like Steam, the whole process should be virtually automatic, and things should install properly. {cross out} I was doing a little reading on the download manager, and it looks like you can redownload for up to six months (?), so you should be able to start the installing process all over (double-check the license agreement, though). ea-download-manager.software.informer.com/wiki/ {cross out}
Actually, after installing EADM, it looks like you can download "multiple copies" but they might be "limited over a few days" according to the license agreement. I'm not sure what that means-- there aren't any specifics attached. But I'm guessing you can re-download/re-install with the "Start Download" button.

Argh! I remember seeing a thread from someone else who had the exact same error message come up... and so far as I can tell, there's no real solution for it. Windows 7 comes with .NET Framework 3.5 as standard, and it's supposed to be backwards compatible, but some program installers look specifically for it as a prerequisite to install, and don't recognize later versions of the .NET framework. I came across a kind of a "fix," I think, but it's a little complicated. What it looks like happens, is that the version of .NET that you have installed somehow hasn't installed correctly, or, at least doesn't "appear" to have installed correctly on your computer.
Try this first-- this tool verifies that .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 shows up as being installed on your system.
blogs.msdn.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer-Components-PostAttachments/00-08-99-90-04/netfx_5F00_setupverifier_5F00_new.zip
And the endless accompanying documentation:
blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx
Not that it matters-- I ran the program on my computer, and it's fairly self-explanatory. In fact, the first thing in the drop-down menu is .NET Framework 2.0 SP2. Click "Verify Now," and it'll tell you whether that version of .NET has appeared to install correctly. Close the "This Program Might Not Have Installed Correctly" box when you're done-- it's a free-standing program and doesn't "install" at all.
Tell me what the program tells you.
Just for my own reference later-- don't do anything with this yet...

1) Type "cmd" in the search box of your Start menu.
2) When cmd.exe shows up in the search results, right-click it and "Run as Administrator."
3) If you have UAC running, choose "Continue" at the popup.
4) At the command prompt, type "sfc /scannow." Make sure to leave a space between "sfc" and "/scannow."
5) Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. According to the blog, this can take quite a while.
SFC will generate a log file in another directory, in addition to fixing critical file errors, that I might be able to help you out with. My guess is, though, that there's absolutely nothing wrong with your .NET installation, and that there's something else that's a problem with the EA digital download, like sloppy coding on their end. You might want to try another manual installation after doing this, and see if it'll work. It probably won't though.
Pipe-dream possibilities if this doesn't work: upgrade .NET 3.5 to .NET 4.0. or Find a way to install .NET 2.0 SP2 in compatibility mode (probably a really bad idea...) But we'll deal with these both *much* later.
For my reference, if you want help with the log file:

I'm thinking an upgrade couldn't hurt (but it probably won't help, TBH). I've discovered, if you actually run Dragon Age (heh, sorry), that it helps a lot of crashing issues.
Here's the installer link for Framework 4:
http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en
I don't know if you want to try to waste your time doing a manual reinstall of the game after you upgrade or not... Definitely don't waste your time doing one before you upgrade .NET, since your install is just fine, and SFC did nothing at all to change anything on your system.

What I think has been happening is that EA's digital download version of Dragon Age can't correctly read Windows 7's registry entries for .NET 2.0 SP2 even though they're there, and so it tries to install the bundled version of .NET 2.0 SP2, which won't run on a 64 bit system. I'm wondering if jiggering the installer's compatibility settings to Windows 2000 might get it to read the registry entries correctly.
If this doesn't work, I'm going to try to research my pipe dream #2 scenario about installing .NET 2.0 and see if it does anything devestating to your system. That might take a while, so apologies in advance...
