Sorry for the delay-- I haven't been able to come up with anything that'll work. I was doing some reading around, and it looks like applications built upon .NET 2.0 SP2 call on the wrong part of the registry. It's a structural problem, essentially, when you're dealing with 64 bit Windows (Vista has the same problem, I think). Even uninstalling your current .NET installation and downgrading it to 2.0 running in compatibility mode won't fix the problem. Here's some technical gobbledegook: http://lambert.geek....7/10/02/net64/  Essentially, this means that only the EA programmers can fix the download manager on their end.  There's nothing that can be done on your end.

Here's a real pipe dream, but I think it's the only thing that will actually allow you to install Dragon Age on your existing Windows installation. Whether it works or not, once you install it, though, is another story. In fact, it's probably extremely unlikely. If you're running Professional or Ultimate, you *might* be able to get it to install using "XP Mode," which is just like running it on a virtual machine. But it probably won't run, even on the most minimal graphics settings. Honestly, it's probably not worth it.

Tactical nuke option: If you built your computer yourself, and you don't mind reinstalling, well, everything, you can reinstall with 32 bit Windows 7, and you probably won't run into any of these problems.

I really hate to say it, but your best bet might be to contact EA and see if you can get your money back. The DVD version of Dragon Age will install just fine for you. Sorry for the bad news :-(  Also, just my own quick note: the EA web store doesn't include any kind of warnings that the Download Manager won't work with 64 bit Windows 7.  They need a serious smack on their collective rear-ends for that oversight!

Thanks :-) I just wish I could have actually *fixed* the problem, though. Seriously, someone should sock EA in the jaw for their utter lack of useful information/true compatibility information on their site.

Not really. Sysadmin stuff is easy, but I can't code my way out of a paper bag. Not that I'd want to ;-)

hey there! I followed your troubleshooting, as so far this was the closest I got to my Origin problem (after it downloaded - now for the second time - it patches itself, but it does not actually run the program). EA customer support could not help a slightest bit, so now I'm pretty stuck. Win7 again, but the base game DA-O is running from CD without problem, but the Awakening installer does not seem to want the truth. the main problem is that I don't relly get any error message either, instead an empty error message box once Windows tries to start the installation. (Win prompts me to accept a new file being installed, but nothing actually happens afterwards).

sooo....any idea? :) would be appreciated, really ^^
