Does anyone know if you are able to add the serial of your retail version of Dragon Age to Steam because I kinda hate disc checks but I want to have the Collector's Edition. ;)

On the top of Steam where it says "File View Games Help" click on Games and select "Activate a product on Steam..." I think that might be what you want.

don't think you can add retail cd keys to steam for none steam version of games. but you can add the game to steam after installing, this doesn't mean it will auto update or get news i am afraid.

thats all unless it needs authentication on steam but dont think it will for retail.

Hey guys, thx for your replies!

Perhaps someone from BioWare can clarify it for us?

Why not simply buy the steam version? The deluxe edition is the collector's edition and it brings extra content and the day one dlc. Or perhaps you want the physical goodies of the collector's edition?

Yeah, the tin box, cloth maps and other cool stuff are nice to have, but I have some time left to decide so no worries. B)

retail copies normally only work with steam if steam is used as a way of activating the game. If its not needed then it won't work im afraid.

There's a link in the Steam help site that lists every game that can currently be activated via steam with a cd key. So far, Dragonage is NOT on that list. It might be later though, who knows.

Well a certain mod for Oblivion wouldn't work with Steam, and by extension many other mods wouldn't work.  The Oblivion Script Extender was a mod that modified the Oblivion executable file, Steam did not like the modified exe.  Since you couldn't use OBSE, mods that took advantage of it could not be used.  OBSE gave enhanced functionality to mods.  Now this may never be an issue with the DD edition of DAO, but I erred on the side of caution and decided to keep my physical CE ordered.  I also don't know how a modified exe would effect logging in to the Bioware Social Network, no matter the edition.

I am just guessing, but if you are switching from a PC-DvD to a PC-Steam version of the game I think the DLC would work, for its tied to your BioWare account, I think you would just have to unregister your old Key for the games and associate the new one.

If you are going to be buying the Steam versions I would watch and look at the deals until June 21st, for they are having daily EA specials and might feature ME and DA:O.

Not to derail the thread, but that's not true.  You can use OBSE for Oblivion on Steam; there is even a sticky in the Steam Oblivion forum that talks about that.  I've never had a problem getting mods to work with the Steam versions of any games I have.

As for the OP's question, you can associate Dragon Age with Steam, but all that does is add the game to your Steam game list so you can launch it from there.  It does not eliminate the need for a disk, however.

There's no point, honestly. There's nothing to say the Steam versions are available longer than the DVD versions, so I think it'd be wasted money (in my opinion).
I say don't bother, but either way it's tied to your EA Account - So if you logged into ME2/DAO with your original account it'd work fine.
If you don't want to buy them again, you can download them via EA Download Manager I believe, but I'm sure that has a 6month limit on downloading the files.

thanks a lot for the answer, i didnt realized that once ingame its so that you can log with another account, thanks now ill considerate buying steam versions

by the way, just if someone knows, once you buy a game via steam, you get it for all time ?(ok, despite the securom protected games), i mean what i like about steam is that i think you can keep it forever in your library, but to be honest im not absolutely certain

No, you don't get it "forever". Steam is not going to be up forever, and if you have a Steam game uninstalled when the servers go down and no back up, then you can't play the game - it's as simple as that. If you do have it installed, then a deauthorisation patch (that will be deployed in the event of Steam going down forever) will allow you to play.

No point having it twice for the same system. None at all.

With Steam, I don't have to worry about misplacing my CDs! Only my user ID & password!

And that's why there's a "memory" feature! Not typed my username and pass for a long time, now that I think about it.

Dragon Age Awakening seems to be on sale today, i was so happy to see it and decided to buy it. But, as my luck would have it, it says i don't have the "required" to buy it. I have DAO but its not on steam, can anyone tell me how to put it there?

I'm afraid you're screwed, Steam Awakening needs a Steam version of Origins in order to work. Even if you could add it to your Steam list it wouldn't do you any good because it's not the Steam version.
