I think I read in Game Informer that they will be concentrating more on action then pause and play in DA2. Now.. I may not have been a PC gamer during Baldur Gate's reign, but I still try to appreciate and enjoy unique gameplay elements like pause and play strategy. So I DID enjoy this style until it started becoming 95% pause and 5% play. Yes, I could have stopped playing on the second highest difficulty, but I thrive on being challenged so that was not an option. Am I just too much of a console gamer at heart to fully appreciate this style or are there people out there who agree with me?

I can play slow-paced games.. ever play Majesty 2? Yeah, doesn't go much slower. But what DA1 did was almost cruel. They teased me with unholy amounts of action at the first portion of the game.. then slowly started to only allow me to enjoy said action in small doses :( It was like eating a giant bowl of ice cream then being ordered to go play chess... OK, yeah, chess is pretty fun but I really want some more of that amazing ice cream.

It would be really cool if Bioware could let me eat the ice cream while playing a game of chess, which is what I hope they will do with DA2. However, if it's just a bunch of ice cream, I honestly don't think I'd complain.

I enjoy pause and play, it never really became an issue to me. But nostalgia might have something to do with it.

Still beats the old JRPG, lets take turns wacking each other.

I do love you, ice cream, never fear.

I usually play on the lower difficulties and rarely pause unless I'm playing a mage. I don't know if I'd be interested in pausing every few seconds but I get that other people like that sort of thing. My impression though from what they've said is that you'll still be able to play that way on the PC, even though they're making the combat more responsive.

Yes.. but nothing trumps a JSRPG for me.. I think people could knock off FF Tactics 50 more times, and I'd still enoy it all the same. Disgaea, anyone?

I'm confused by your wording.. by "be able" do you mean there will be an option to emphasize pause and play over action? Or, as I suspect, that on PC the only option will be to pause and play once more :(

I'm on consoles and pause & play was pathetic and clunky, I was rather happy when I heard they tried to move away from that.

That...is actually a really good question that I don't know the answer to. My guess is that it will be pause and play but that the combat changes will make it easier to play without pausing if you want to. But I'm really just guessing here.

I'm kinda happy w/ the current system. I mean, you can always bring down the difficulty if you didn't want to always pause & play. (or get some mod items to make things easier)

I like both systems. But I prefer the pause & play more, because if you eat a whole cake at once, you will get sick of it. But if you eat it slowly, you will not.

Perhaps a better tactics setup would lead to less pausing? The only time I really had to pause and play was nightmare solo mage, and that's mainly because of lack of hot keys (the amount of).

Pause and play is a great system. I use it all the time because you can just accomplish so much more from a tactical point of view. And I really enjoyed the tactical aspect of Dragon Age.

It's not necessary a good thing. I need a better control(compared to assigning tactics) of my party and pause and play is the only way to go.

I love pause and play. I gives me time to think about my strategy and it makes the game very rewarding. So yeah less pause and play would be a dumb idea. We don't need more action RPGs!

Yes, we do, but not those that strip RPG elements to make them user-friendly.

If you liked something while you were doing it, then nostalgia has nothing to do with it.

I actually found myself pausing and playing far more on the xbox than the pc, but that's just me. I loved being able to set up storm of the century with my warden and morrigan before a fight even started or having sten or shale take all the aggro first whilst setting it up. I woulda been sorely dissapointed if they removed pause and play from the console (although that doesn't seem the case for DA2)

Less pause and play a good thing?

No. :D

Pause and play is an option for those who like it
- please mind the majority never joins a board and
vocalizes their appreciation.

Many companies have already driven their games
against a wall by scratching supposedly superflous
options and features without a proper research ahead.

I've done 8+ playthroughs, and ya know, I've never done storm of the century. I don't know, I guess in the beginning I set out to speck my mages/or self to "aquire" STC, but just always get sidetracked with boss mitigators.

Pause and Play is a compromise. I would love to see some good old-fashioned turn-based combat, but that will never happen. More pause, less play is what I say :)

DA O is turn based as well, just not as obvious as the
Dragon Age Journeys flash game.

Depends on what they replace it with. If the answer is hacknslash, then no. If it's something that actually adds the need for some strategic planning, or hard to pull off real time tactics switch ups, then sure.

It isn't turn based.

it is nowhere near Fallout, it is not turn-based
