I was wondering if it is possible to:
Make Allistair king alone, and let Logain make the ultimate sacrifice. I play a city elf female mage in a relation with Liliana, Both Liliana and Alistair have been hardend. Also I would like to make Shianni the first bann of Elven Alienage.

I have awakenings, should I keep this in mind or doesn't it matter what ending I choose for Awakenings.

You must harden Alistair during his personal quest. Essentially, this means that once you leave Goldanna's house, you must choose the option "people are looking out for themselves."

You must have his approval quite high (which isn't hard if you have given him all the gifts, or have Feastday Gifts installed) and he will then have a follow-up conversation where he says he's been thinking about what you said and will start sticking up for himself (answer something along the lines of "it's about time" and he will be hardened).

Following the Rescue the Queen quest, you then have to persuade Anora and Alistair to marry. This must be done at Arl Eamon's Denerim estate - if you leave it until Landsmeet it will be too late.

When you speak to Anora, tell her you will support her and choose positive replies when it comes to Loghain. If you promise to kill him, she will turn against you.

At Landsmeet, Alistair will get pissy if you spare Loghain but remind him that he and Anora were supposed to be getting married. He will honour that, and you will get to keep Loghain.

But you can't make Alistair king alone and spare Loghain like the OP asked.

thanks for the replies. Not sure what I am going to do. On my first playthrough with a male dwarf nobel warrior I had a unhardened Alistair marry Anora, he wasn't to happy about that. My dwarf did the horizontal hoky poky ritual with Morrigan.

But this time I don't want to do the ritual, if I cannot poke Morrigan (I'm female after all) then no one can. So no ritual happening. So I thought it would be nice if Logain did the ultimate sacrifice. And I contiue to have a hot and steamy relation with Liliana. Well we will see how things turn out.

You can make Alistair king alone and have Loghain make the US and without doing the DR, but it involves a console cheat !! I won't say anymore unless asked.

How does Alistair react at the coronation if Loghain survived?

He's very cold towards the player. He tells you that "there isn't much to talk about, you ended the blight, congratulations". He makes a couple of snarky remarks about how you were able to kill the Archdemon with no GW dying and is clearly PO'd that Loghain is still alive.

Even if Loghain is dead he's still cold and snarky, just a little less.

Apperently I didn't harden Alistair, maybe I did that with another character. Since I wanted to keep Logain alive I had to kill Alistair. So in the end I made Anora queen, didn't do the DR and Logain made the US. Works for me just fine. Alistair is a whiny **** anyway.

Yes, hardening Alistair depends not only on telling him to stand up for himself (following his quest), but also another dialogue later once his approval is around 75 or thereabouts. If you don't get that second dialogue, then he won't be hardened.

When he talks to you at camp you have the chance to undo it, if I remember what I saw in the toolset correctly.
