I play Baldur's Gate using the Tutu mod and recently got to Baldur's Gate itself. I entered this place called Ye Olde Inn in the south western parts of the city. When my party entered they immediately encountered a couple of Green Slimes who were hostile and so there was a fight. The only one of my party members who were hit during the fight was Viconia, who was hit for 1 point of damage. The battle ended shortly thereafter. Then she lost 3 more points, but I couldn't see why. She wasn't poisoned or anything. Then a couple of seconds later she exploded into little pieces and I lost her permanently due to massive damage!?

I don't like to reload when I play, but in this case I made an exception. I mean, this has to be a bug, right? I couldn't see anything that indicated anything else and the Green Slimes were worth 65xp, so I assume they shouldn't have such powers. I also play showing all rolls and feedback in the text section and it said nothing. She just died. Has this happened to anybody else?

edit: Oh, Viconia had 34/34 hit points when the battle started, went to 33/34, then 30/34 after the battle, then sustained massive damage.

No, Green Slimes are that dangerous. If you fail a save vs death with a +4 bonus the character is poisoned and dies permanently shortly thereafter. There is no cure and other than having good saves or not getting hit there is no protection.

Oh, ok. Hmm, maybe I should have saved a back-up file then. Oh well, I'm not in the no reload challenge anyway so I guess I can live with having reloaded. Still, I don't like that I received so little feedback of what was happening. And I didn't know you could be poisoned beyond resurrection either. I was confused and surprised to say the least. Thanks for the quick reply.

It's not the poisoning per se, but Viconia chunking that sends her beyond resurrection. Personally, I never faced this issue out of pure luck, but if you have a dwarf/gnome/halfling character with 18 CON in your party, use them to frontline since they gain a +5 bonus to their saving throw vs. death. Not sure, but if you have TuTu installed you can see the saving throw rolls in the feedback area.

Hmm, ok I must have missed it then, because I have Tutu and I have everything displayed. I went back to check what happened but couldn't figure it out. Maybe I just didn't get it. There was no icon showing that she was affected by something and then she lost hit points and subsequently exploded about 10 seconds after the battle had ended. That's what got me confused I think.

And yeah I usually don't use Viconia as a frontline fighter. It was just that I was thrown into the fight without any preparation and she happened to be close to one of the slimes. Normally I have Yeslick as tank. He's only got 17 in constitution though if I recall correctly. And I thought to myself : "How dangerous can they be?". After all, I had just been down Durlag's Tower before going to Baldur's Gate. :P

Gadd, even with 17 CON Yeslick gains +4 to his saving throws vs death. Go ahead and send him in to wipe them out.

I believe this is only with dwarves/halflings.  Gnomes just get a con-based save bonus to wands & spell.

That's correct, my mistake. But still, Yeslick being a dwarf benefits from that so no worries.
