While "Garret" is certainly workable I'm still sticking with Ebon Hawke.

I support Garrett and Marian Hawke romance.
Desire Demons, Archdemons, mabaris, David Gaider who wouldnt you romance is the real question here.
On topic: I will use the default Garrett first then mix things up a bit on the second playthrough.

But I usually choose names based on their meaning, I try to have it say a little something about the character based on it's etymology.

Because I recently watched El Cid and noticed that Sophia Loren is beautiful. I also like the sound of the name.
Failing that, the Hawkes will be named after Old Gods. Because why not?

I kept the default name for my f!Cousland, mostly because I thought Elissa was a pretty name -- I don't like Marian, however, so I'm changing my f!Hawke's name to either Jaina or Rhiannon. I'm not sure which, however... hmmmm...
I kept the default name for my f!Tabris as well - I loved Kallian, plus 'Kallian Tabris' just had a nice ring to it. I like Marian as well though, it fits the setting, though I have to admit I'm really tempted to steal your Rhiannon idea....

Ah, it creates excellent back story too! Yeah, definitely having an Urthemiel Hawke with my Amell import now

People often call me by my last name, so maybe it's not as weird to me to hear them refer to Shepard that way? Though to be fair it does get weird during romances.
This is old, but I was never bothered by people calling Shepard by her last name.
I went to a college that also had a mostly-boys military college in the same city. They weren't even official military, but students were called by their last names by both teachers and classmates. Most of them introduced themselves to us by last name. Now that we've all graduated, we're slowly getting out of that habit, but hell, some of these guys were my husband's groomsmen and we still called them by their last names! Depending on your circumstances, it's not necessarily an impersonal thing.
Even girls who dated these guys would take months to call them by their first names. Thus, having the love interests in Mass Effect call you "Shepard" hardly seemed like a strange thing to me.
Hawke isn't part of the real-world military, so a last-name-only thing might not work as well, especially with the siblings. I'd be fine if Bethany and Carver have some kind of childhood nickname for Hawke. It'd be even funnier if you can role-play that Hawke absolutely hates it.

My m/Hawke is going to be Spar. Spar Hawke, and he will have the most wonderful broken nose
In honour of the name I'd have the broken nose on the female as well but I like my female warriors to look ... well, kind of feminine.

I really, really love both names, actually! Marian, especially, is beautiful to me, but Garrett, too! I've been sort of hating big stupid ugly beardy manHawke, but with the name Garrett on him, he's become slightly endearing for completely inexplicable reasons ...
All women find Garrett from Thief sexy. That's why.
That's true for me.
