I'll be changing Garrett to David... for complicated reasons that cannot be explained. *shifty eyes*

Clearly, it'll be to honour David Gaider, isn't that right...

Clearly you've seen through my devious plan.

Garret? No, I think not. I frelling hate default first names.

Farscape! FARSCAPE!!!!! Aaaaaaahhhh!!!!!

Aeryn Hawke, D'Argo Hawke, Sparky Hawke, Buckwheat Hawke

On topic, the only thing that'd make me stick with the name Garett is if they'd let our character wear a hood. I'll definitely play as a rogue then.

Dammit Bioware stop picking odd names that sound ambiguous enough to imply one gender but open the possibility for another.

On another note I'll name my fem Hawke Deliahn. A confusing odd sounding name ambiguous enough to imply one gender but open the possibility for another.

I find this hillarious because I wanted to name my Hawke Garrett. Marian is meh, though.

I am very pleased with the name Garrett, as my Thief fanboyism can attest to. Stephen Russell for Male Hawke voice? I can dream, can't I?

My female Hawke will be Isabeau. The game just asks for it.

I don't tend to use default names - though I quite like Marian. It's a good strong name. Mariana OTOH makes me think of the character in Measure for Measure, and while I like the character, I probably wouldn't want to link her to my protagonist.

And Garrett - I love the boy, but I don't want to play as him in DA2. And I think if he was called Garrett, I'd inevitably think of him as *that* Garrett. Still, we aren't obliged to use the names, so it doesn't matter.

Yeah, whatever random names they pick. I'll change them to something more proper such as Gluteus Maximus and Exocrine.

...yeah   Anyway, I like Marian and Garrett.  Also, the BioWare crew are Canadian, so they'll probably tend to pick what sounds better to primarily English-speaking audiences.  Though I'm changing my character's name.

Rupert Hawke for a guy, and Fisher Hawke for a girl. (be better if I could name her Julia Fisher, but can't have everything)

I'll only be Garrett if I can belong to a group called The Keepers.

Yeah I'm not too excited about the defaults either, but I was never going to use them anyway. I'm going to use Eithne and Mike... (yes I cant get over Mike Hawk, btw.... you know that tv show on the Discovery Channel Man,Woman, Wild, the guys name is totally Myke Hawk not joking...)

IF I play a male, no Garrett. My nephew's name is Garrett. I think Marson would be a better name for a guy anyway.

Marian is kind of bland for me. I think I'll stick with Summer for my fem Hawke.

My brother will, because that's his real name. When I told him, he was actually pretty excited about it. I don't think he's ever heard of "Thief" so this will be the first time his name has been the default. Silly, but I can't blame him.

I don't know if I'll stick with Marian. I sort of like it, but I haven't been able to get "Kitty" out of my head since we heard the surname is Hawke. Kitty Hawke... yeah, yeah. It'd be funnier if there was a male romance option named Wright. >_>

I like both names, but I know I'll pick a name for Lady Hawke. Probably won't for (Dude?) Hawke until my second playthrough as a guy way, way down the line.

I like the names but I never really use default names. I don't know, I guess I feel like picking a name myself puts a stamp of ownership on the character, or at least the illusion of one. No idea what to name my Hawke yet though. I'll have to think about it some more. This name, Anarya, is one I made up myself but I don't think it goes very well with Hawke. It sounded very nice with Cousland though.

Garrett is what I usually name my male characters. So I guess Bioware saved me the trouble of typing it in :P

Marian I don't like but I was gonna name my female PC something else no matter what they would come up with.

And it would be rather odd that both heroes share the same first name.

Even weirder if you name the character in the third one the same way.

Well it could well be if the third is set a few years after DA2, as there is quite a lot of historical precedence for people being named after great heroes of the age.

That's why my mother named me He-Man.

It's a mysterious name of DESTINY in Thedas. Or it could have been, if it sounded good with Hawke.

I have it! A pair of Hawkes: they will be named Gwendolen and Tristan. So shall it be.

Gwendolen Hawke. I like it. Bonus: has kind of a cool meaning--"'white ring', derived from the Welsh elements gwen 'white, fair, blessed' and dolen 'ring'. This was the name of a mythical queen of the Britons who defeated her husband in battle, as told by Geoffrey of Monmouth."
