Mass Effect Movie: Male Shep or Fem Shep?

But, to say it again, no Shep. Better action star or no, 'canonizing' a certain Shep would just make it rather annoying for those who have played their Shep's a certain way. If it were at all based on the games, you might as well play it 'cause it's almost a friggin movie in its own right.
Movie based on ME 1, there are at least 4 major plot points that would polarise fans :
1) Rachni Queen
2) Wrex on Virmire
3) Survivor of Virmire
4) Destiny Ascension
Setting any one of these in stone means the actual story of Shep goes one way, and if someone plays any differently it's different from the actual story. Which shouldn't be the case because Shep's story is what the player wants it to be, that's been the beauty of Mass Effect.
So, Shep should not, and most likely will not, feature in the ME movie. The books do well without a Shep, the comics did well without giving Shep a gender (I've only read the comics, but the books seem to be well received), so why change the trend now?
Male Shep, default Shep, is marketing Shep. Same as mullet guy in Black Ops, same as Faith in Mirror's Edge. I am loathe to mention Fallout 3 here, but I shall because it helps the point I'm making, there is no 'face' of Fallout 3, and why is that? There's the BoS armour, but no gender, New Vegas has some trench coat person, but again no gender, because these games allow you to make your own character and your own story, kind of the same as Mass Effect, only for marketing purposes there's a face to the main character.
No shep. We may be forced to make a banner here.

2. Maleshep.
woo copy and paste cluster****!!
Males leads make more money in action/sci fi movies, not fair, I know, but the more money this movie makes, the more bioware makes, and that means better games coming faster.

Well... Orange is cool. But does your Shepard have green eyes?PWENER wrote...
Just like my Shep is the best ever (his has orange hair, badass orange hair).
Seriously, though. If it wasn't for FemShep and Hale I would have given up ME long ago. Time to put her in the spotlight.
He has yellow eyes (wich are rarer).
Yeah, Mark Veer's voice is the best I've heard in any video game character. His voice matches with my custom Shep like water to powder iced tea.
I love Hale's voice for FemShep she's awesome at the role. Also just the way her voice burrs when it gets all sexy makes me go all gooey inside.
My Female Shepard has green eyes like me, I give her short hair though cause all the long hair options suck. None of them are like my hair but she has my nose, my lips and my jaw.
Still my stance is that the movie should be based on a new character because as I stated earlier the game is player centric and depends on the player what gender their character is and who the romance interest is.

Sarah Connor would also like a word with the person that suggested action/adventure films with female leads do not sell well...
Anyway, I love the aforementioned Liara prequel movie idea. I'd be first in line to see it!
In Terminator one she was the victim
In Terminator Two she wasn't the "lead" it certiantly wasn't Linda Hamiltons name on the marketing. It certiantly wasn't Linda Hamilton on the cover.... No it was "Arnie"....
In Terminator Three she was dead.
Sarah Connor Chronicles was axed ..... but thats not because of sarah conner ...that's fox being ****s... but still it wasn't a "action adventure FILM".. but an axed television series....

I'd say Sarah was about as much the lead in T-2 as Arnie..
Alien is a great example of a popular series of films with a strong female lead.
Sci-fi TV shows with them include the afformentioned Sarah Conner Chronicles, Farscape (Aeryn was essentially at equal standing with John by the middle of the series run) Battlestar Galactica (the remade version) as Starbuck was the closest thing to a main character in that show. Caprica has Zoe Graystone etc etc
There's been a lot of movies/shows with strong female leads that have done extremely well. Anyone that says female leads in action/sci-fi films don't bring in the viewers is simply wrong..

That being said, it is absolutely redundant to have it based off the game. I can't remember where I got this, but I read that they plan to release the movie around the same period as ME3, which makes me think that the movie might relate to ME3's timeline, maybe in another part of the galaxy (hence: mention and glorification of Shepard). This last bit is what I think will attract new players into the game if they do this path--they will want to be this godly being called Shepard and fill in the blanks to what Sheaprd actually did.
Besides, isn't the game really cinematic already? What's the point in making a movie adaptation of the game when what we will see is basically the game, but without the dialogue wheel?

it must be male shep why?
because i dont want big lip angalina jolie
play shep and thats got a 95% chance of happening if they went with a shelia
but people need to face facts
the game has a cannon sheps a male solider and a paragon (bunnys and group hugs all arround)
the only thing we still cannot be sure of is his backstory

I wanna see an exploitation film starring Blasto the Jellyfish. Filmed in "Cinemaphonic Quadrovision."
edit: But since that's not going to happen, Ten bucks says Michelle Roderguiz gets cast as Ash.

Matthew Fox?
Do you have a source that isn't based on fan speculation, since everything I've heard about him filling the role of Shepard has been fueled by rumour, not anything official.

It's from some webpage that has a movie database, don't know if it's official.

IMDB? You know that's user-edited, right?
