I would rather have the story follow a character like Anderson or Grayson.

I think it'd be awesome to have Anderson's mission as a Spectre (alongside a certain Turian we all love to hate) be the focus for the Mass Effect movie.  This won't happen, I know....but it'd still be cool.

LMAO! At the ppl saying Liara should get the movie for herself. WTF! Have we played the same game?! I really like Liara but she hasn't done anything. Go back and play ME1! Even she says she didn't do much of anything besides unearth ruins, reading books, etc, etc. That run in with the Geth at the Dig Site was her first real action. I'm sorry, but I don't want to see 2 hours of Liara reading books and digging stuff up. That's what Discovery channel is for.

Now this is a prequel I would pay double to watch! :o

I don't like the idea of female Shepard without Hale's voice for her.

Male Shepard, it must be.

I don't support Shepard being in the movie in the first place, but I'll answer this anyway.

FemShep, though I doubt the same awesomeness would still be there without Hale's voice.

seconded.

Well  "women are objects to be oggled"  is a very sterotypical l view.

@Erinlana: And it's one that I don't agree with. :)

Didn't you have a whole thread in your group dedicated to "ogling" woman? <_<

Aren't more than half of us in that group "woman?" Yeah, we do. But we also believe that women are people and that they can be attractive, sure, but that's not their sole purpose in the world.

Seriously Celrath, I have very little patience for you.

I’d like a female Shepard for the Mass Effect movie. It would make it stand out more from regular action movies. I personally like action women that are more than just sex appeal; there just aren’t enough of them out there.

And yes, I feel I must voice my surprise that anyone thinks a prequel to Mass Effect focusing on Liara would be interesting. Anything not based on the games would already be lame, but Liara? NOOOOO.

Oh my heated disscusion !:o

Im not sure what they could do to resolve maleshep or femshep being cast as the actor and im a  girl.I think both would be suited to the role but In terms of promotion and adverts , Femshep was left out. :?

I thinks alot of people are saying Maleshep because there is more of a percentage of male players to female , but I think it should be a balanced dissension.

I'd prefer that the movie be independent of the games and --like the novels, comics, etc.-- that it add to the universe rather than just be a adaptation of the events of the games, which seems completely pointless and backwards to me.

However, if we MUST have a movie surrounding Shepard's escapades, then I'd actually like to see a Femshep rather than a guy, despite the fact I'd doubt they'd go that direction. Femshep has the potential to be a really strong female character, something that is generally lacking. Male Shepard would just come across as another testosterone spraying tough guy which has been done to death.

Without getting into a debate over whether it should be MaleShep or FemShep, realistically either one could support a movie - the differences between them are fairly negligible and anyone that says differently: that one is somehow intrinsically better than the other is just being silly and engaging in hyperbole.  However if this thing ends up actually being produced you can bet your ass they're going to go with a Male Shepard.

People like to bring up Aliens and sure it is a fantastic movie - its in my DVD collection and its a movie I love to watch. But Aliens was well over TWENTY (24-5 if memory serves!) years ago. How many blockbuster female led action movies have their been since then? I could name flops left and right and a few moderate hits but if they're going to be dumping money into this film's budget their going to not want a moderate hit and they sure as hell aren't going to want a flop - their going to want massive returns and that means they will play it safe and go with a male star.

That being said I personally hope this film gets bogged down in development as I have at this point ZERO faith in its ability to be any good.

About as sensible a argument as the women can't be soldiers one.

While we're stereotyping gender roles I'll go ahead and say that a FemShep movie wouldn't work because she'd be obsessed with the latest fashions and talking to all her friends over the extranet and wouldn't want to break a nail during a fight, basically reducing ME to Sex and the City in space - no wait, I won't say that because its ABSURD.

I didn't say that's how it would be, I just said that's how it would come across. They'd need to do a lot of work to make a male Shepard seem fresh and not just like that. And Shepard as he is isn't a terribly deep character, which is fine in a video game where you want the player to fill in some blanks, but not so much in a movie. If the movie poster for a Mass Effect movie was basically the same as the game box art for ME1 or ME2 then that's the first thing people would think. It's only because I knew ahead of time that Shepard was fully customisable (including gender and dialogue choices) and not just a pre-defined character that didn't put me off it. Default Shepard isn't that much of a step-up from Marcus Fenix or the Army of Two guys.

As much as I hate the concept of video games being turned into movies (Except street fighter. That was so bad that it was awesome.) . . .

There is nothing preventing both Fem Shep and Male Shep from starring in a movie except for a last name.

Personally, I don't think we could ever use the characters from the game in a movie: there's just NO WAY anybody could play the part of Shepard and get it done right, precisely because of the fact that there are as many versions of Shepard as there are players, with everybody having their own opinion about what he/she should be like. There are some ways around this problem, some of them being: keep the story either before the events in the game, or after, or use a different tangent of the game story, only with totally different characters so that you don't have to go around the Shepard character at all.

I don't want Shepard in this movie at all. Same goes for most of the squadmates, because they'd have to look like the characters in the game AND have the same voice. Otherwise it'd be just FAIL in my view. And since everyone has a different Shepard, I don't want him/her in this movie.

If I had to choose one, probably FemShep since I'm playing MaleShep. That might work for me then.

If the producers have any cojones they will have a maleshep who romances Kaidan or a femshep who does so with Ash.

My money bets we get a maleshep with Liara, but I'd prefer a femshep.

There really is no one Shepard. Shepard is either male or female. Paragon or renegade. The class, background and psychological profile are also selectable.

Therefore it appears to me it doesn't make sense to see a Shepard in a movie.

But if there is then it is about time that we see a female playing Shepard. After all... She saved the galaxy. Twice.
