Really? I havent been following it but I didnt think anything happened except they announced the movie

Same here, I hope they use this movie to EXPAND upon the ME galaxy with new characters and plot. I hope this isn't a movie that is just a theatrical version of what we've already played in ME1, ME2, and soon ME3.

I didn't say that's how it would be, I just said that's how it would come across. They'd need to do a lot of work to make a male Shepard seem fresh and not just like that. And Shepard as he is isn't a terribly deep character, which is fine in a video game where you want the player to fill in some blanks, but not so much in a movie. If the movie poster for a Mass Effect movie was basically the same as the game box art for ME1 or ME2 then that's the first thing people would think. It's only because I knew ahead of time that Shepard was fully customisable (including gender and dialogue choices) and not just a pre-defined character that didn't put me off it. Default Shepard isn't that much of a step-up from Marcus Fenix or the Army of Two guys.

That's a hell of a crystal ball you've got there. Perhaps you're just imagining the marketing, how it would be done and the way it would be recieved according to how YOU imagine or want to see it handled and recieved with a male lead.

But if MaleShep isn't a step up from Fenix and other action shlock then FemShep isn't much of a step up from those characters either save for her breasts, I prefer that a character have defining characteristics that runs deeper than their sexual organs.

In fact we just had Trek in the action sci fi genre last year and that didn't come off as some machismo driven fest - or District 9 another action sci fi film with a male lead. If the writing/production of the film is so bad that Shepard on screen devolves into a Marcus Fenix type than what equipment Shepard is sporting below the belt is irrelevant.  That's how we end up with dreck like Catwoman or those Tomb Raider movies.

Spot on!

I love how some people condemd that Maleshep will be just your typical Arnold wannabe action hero, while Femshep will always become some awesome and deep character.

In all fairness, MaleShep and Femshep are almost the exact same character. They have the same dialogue, the same motions, and everything. Play on mute, and they are exactly the same. Any character depth at that point is in the writing, and the imagination of the player.

I have not read the comics but in the second book, which only mentions Shepard in passing in the Prologue, they are deliberately vague on Sheps gender. Additionally, they never confirm wether or not Shep was Paragon or Renegade in the first game. This tells me that they want to keep the video games seperate, so that each reader can assume his or her choice.

If they are smart they will keep doing this with the movie. A movie version of the novel Revelation would be fine, that being the story of Anderson's mission with Saren. However I'd like a totally new story myself.

Excatly. It's why I don't get how people can call Maleshep shallow, since Femshep is almost just like him.

People, get over it. Shepard WILL be the protagonist. It's based on ME1 after all.

I am not sure if I read this right. My Shepard is female. So it reads to me like PWENER wants Shepard to be female. If that's what is meant then I agree. :P

At least you have a sense of humor. ;)

But make no mistake. For many of us Shepard is female. In fact BioWare allowed Shepard to be female. Just as they allowed Shepard to be male.

Seriously, though. If it wasn't for FemShep and Hale I would have given up ME long ago. Time to put her in the spotlight.

Come to think of it. Hale said she wanted to do more than voice acting. With today's technology and motion capturing it would be easy to make her act as the default green eyed Shepard and use her voice.

One can dream, right? ;)

Another reason I think I'd rather watch a movie with a male Shepard is that romance will no doubt be in the movie, and the love interests for a male are much more interesting than the female's in both games.

Although they both get Liara...but Liara isn't that interesting anyway.

A movie is not a game. So you don't control the lead. That means that you are watching a romace. So your argument doesn't make sense because the screen play romance could still be interesting for males.

He has yellow eyes (wich are rarer).

Yeah, Mark Veer's voice is the best I've heard in any video game character. His voice matches with my custom Shep like water to powder iced tea.
