Mass Effect Movie: Male Shep or Fem Shep?

Off the top of my head I can't think of any game movie that I particularly like, at least not taken in the context of whatever game they're based off of.

If by someone else, just cast Sam worthington, the guy looks like a video game character anyway and looks like male Sheppard even more.

80% of players having a male Shep is obviously possible, many people have multiple Shep's. The breakdown of how many players finished with which Shep would be a far more interesting and indicative stat.
But anyway, back to the main argument, there shouldn't be a Shep in the movie, or at least not a leading role for Shep simply because too many people have differing views of Shepard. To bring in a 'canon' Shepard would be counter-intuitive especially since they'd already gone as far as to leave Shep genderless in the comics. Why change the story now?
The first contact war would be interesting, and it'd fulfill the typical sci-fi demands.. *sigh* Cool alien ships, brave humans fighting against a superior foe. Explosions, sacrifice, heroism! Commonly visited themes, though I think there haven't been too many sci-fi movies recently or coming soon, so competition and inevitable comparisons may be light.
Though I can think of no better way to introduce the Mass Effect universe to a greater audience, beginning with humanity's first step into the wider galaxy. Wasn't the contact war started by humanity's 'unauthorized' use of a mass relay?
No tl;dr. Read it, or don't.

people arguing for femshep or noshep are forgetting that brand recognition is important to a. get the project made and b. to sell it to the casual audience who will bring in the money. a mass effect movie done right won't exactly be cheap - so using a "known" actor and sticking to the default template (male, most likely soldier) is the most sensible option.

IMO there are not enough female action heroes around. The only ones I can rember of at this moment are Sigourney Weaver in the "Alien" Movies, Angelina Jolie in "Tomb Raider" and some other movies, and Mila Jovovich in "Resident Evil" and some other movies
.
But unfortunately it will be a male Shepard if Shepard appears in the Movie.

Male Shepard, I do like strong female characters like Ripley but I think ManShep would do better for a Hollywood movie

If that doesn't happen, I think MaleShep, mostly because he featured in most of the marketing.

Everyone has his/her own Commander Shepard. Well for me it's ONLY female. Also I think that in someways the game is already like a movie.
First contact war could be a very interesting movie I think

But if they base the movie off The First Contact War, I’ll like to hear the story of Ashley’s grandfather, and T.I.M. Oh and I bet Garrus’s grand pappy was there too. XD
I say the first contact was will be perfect on the 3D screen. Or they can just make a CGI movie. Lol
IDK I’m just hoping for a female Shepard either way, no biotics!

Yeah but Mila Jovovich is a great actor! have you seen her in resident evil!?! and true those women actors you said are terrible but Mila is AWSOME
from what i see (not you) guys who hate women actors are guys who can't handle a women in charge and just see it silly. i agree on that part but only women who look like porn stars or ****s or just plain out cute or just weak looking! (for example the women you named). and im a guy! but mila is just PERFECT as commander shepard

Defeats the purpose of an ME Movie.
I think the reason why no one wants Shepard used is because they have their own version of Shepard s in their mind and they don't want it messed with lol

He's the only one capable of stopping the reapers, period, I have no clue how Shep will do it in ME3 without Chuck.. I fear for the Norrisless future

I think the women in them taking on guys twice or more their size and winning is unbelievable - which automatically puts the movies at a disadvantage, the people who direct and write them make up the other 65% of suck.
At least with arnie, stallone, jet li, statham etc look like they stand a fight. Mila Jovovich i find is the worst, she's thinner than a pencil yet im to believe she can go around beating up people 3 times her size. I can fully believe small guys like Bruce Lee being able to do it, they are nothing but muscle.. but Mila Jovovich.. no way. If they at least worked to build up muscle to something say olympic runner level etc then it would help a lot.
MaleShep - its canon and chances are you'll find a better actionstar for it.
Another point, paragorn, renegade or a mix. Would you pick different shepards if you knew which way they where going to protray Shep? For a mix I would do with Jason Statham. He's a good actor and good action star.

Women taking on guys in hand to hand combat sure, a bit unrealistic. Thankfully shepard pretty much solely uses guns. Guns even the playing field so a femshep, imo, wouldn't be any less realistic than a maleshep.. This isn't Mass Effect: The MMA Chronicles.

But I agree that if there was a Shepard in the movie (and there won't be) then Bioware is unlikely to reverse over three years of maleshep marketing. And while I do think a woman can make a good star in an action film, I don't think femshep is a character that would sell as well on the big screen.
