Hi there!

No exe file after installing but I'm connected to the internet, I understand I need to be. In program files I only have

Mass Effect
         Web Links
                (Empty)

No firewalls up.

I guess this is because the installer isn't connecting to the internet to verify the code?

When I start up the autorun and then click on play nothing happens. No black screen, nada. Just goes to desktop without any slowdown or anything to indicate the PC is attempting to run a program. 

I'm on windows 7

Not sure what to do, any advice would be great!

I, for one, cannot follow along with what you wrote to understand what you are talking about, sorry.
