One thing I found cool in Fable 2 was that the district of the central city in which you grew up changed dramatically based on how you acted there. If you were nice, when you returned a decade later the district was affluent and charming. If you were a dick, it became a slum, full of thugs and assassins and such.

Kirkwall is clearly integral to DA2; you're character is defined as 'the champion of Kirkwall' and by all accounts it is the central hub of the adventure. As the city is so important, and as you return there over the course of many years, it would be great to see visual changes to the city to reflect your choices and actions.

If you work with the thieves guild, or the Chantry, or the local guards, that group could become more prominent with bigger buildings and more members.

If you encourage a young artist, by the end of the game they've built statues and fountains through the city.

It is purely cosmetic, but I would really enjoy seeing my choices have an effect on the environment and it would really help me to feel that this is *my* story, and I'm changing the world according to my actions.

Thoughts?

They already said that it's up to us to decide who calls Hawke the "Champion of Kirkwall", and that we will see consequences of our decisions. I think we will see how the city changes as the story progresses. Nothing overly dramatic like rebuilding districts in your honor, but that example with the statue and an artist is a nice touch.

I'm pretty sure this i s going to be implemented. I actually expect much wider shifts of the world than jus cosmetic changes in your "home" town. Hawke is a man whose actions changed the world, so I can to totally see whole cities burned down and stuff. As a matter of fact, it would be nice to see these cosmetic changes in every city state in the free marches, depending on what you did there.

I think that would be a really nice element to the game, such as the way it was in Assassin's Creed 2 with Montereggioni. It was done rather well with the upgrades to Turnip Keep (:P) in Awakening, so hopefully we'll get to see more of the same.

If I use said Keep as the example, the only real improvement (beyond sheer scale and what you have already suggested) would be to see the changes in equipment of guards and whatnot when it is tied to the quest elements.

And also, given that we have already seen some form of the idea, I think (hope) there is a good chance to see the same developed in DA2. It would be most interesting to see what a Blood Mage type character could do to the Chantry and these powerful Templars...

I would be surprised if this didn't happen. BioWare's module setup is perfect for this.

I'd like to have a Red Light District in Kirkwall. It could expand and become more influential if you frequently go there.

The chantry in the Free Marshes isn't the same chantry, though.

I'd really like to see something like this. That Kirkwall evolves based on how one interacts with it. I do want to see something more complex than "be nice = prosperity" and "be cruel = slum" though. That every choice you make in regards to the city means both positive and negative consequences and that sometimes perhaps the hard and cruel option is actually the better one for the city.

If I decide to use some of my funds to give money to the poor, then I want to see the poor having it marginally better (enough to be noticeable, but not much more), but I also want the treasury to feel an significant impact over the years.

If I drive out the templars, then I gradually want to see the amount of free mages increase in the city and praise the freedom. Eventually to the point that maleficar become a significant problem to the populace.

If I want to ramp down on crime, then perhaps I have to send a armed force to repress an unruly Alienage, killing many elves (innocent and gulity alike) but lowering the crime in the city for years to come (but not removing it). I could also choose to spare the alienage and fight the crime in another fashion, being much less effective but more lenient to the elves.

That I could be merciful and spare the ones opposing me, being a kind ruler but suffering a neverending rebellion or deal with it harsly and earn the title tyrant but have a rather peaceful reign.

A kind ruler should not per default lead to a prosperous and great city and a harsch and cruel ruler shouldn't mean the city is a veritable slum.

I agree with Sir JK. It seems in most games like this being nice gives you the best reward no matter what, while being evil is actually less profitable than being a good guy. A ruler who gives away money to every beggar in the streets is not going to have a long and prosperous reign. Sometimes you need to make tough decisions.
