An issue I had with Finishing Moves in Origins...

Dragon Age Origins gave the player those short and special finishing moves to the player (Melee weapon players actually, something I understand got rectified). I heard that Dragon Age 2 will have more of those, which it's good. It adds some effects to the combat scene and makes the game more action like, even if you go on and place just a click on the target (don't know how consoles work).

However, I always had a problem with such moves. If you were in the middle of a battle, and say, you were the only one from your party left, against an ogre and some hurlocks, and if you had low health when killing the ogre, the finishing move would take so much time, enough of it in many cases, for the enemies to kill you while you're doing the finishing move.

So I wanted to ask if there will be an option to interrupt the finishing moves, instead of risking the Warden's (or more precisely, Hawke's) life every attempt at finishing off the enemy spectacularly?
I understand this is not a "oh my god, that's a big one!" issue but, it's always nice not to reload because of a finishing move :pinched:

That's an option, true. But we don't know if the game will be moddable! (Or do we? :o )

Still would prefer to hear what a dev says... if I will be so lucky :D

A very poignant request. Yes mods can solve this issue no doubt but will the actual inherent mechanics built into the game prevent your untimely rape in the heat of battle while the hero flourishes unnecessarily is a worthwhile question. I hope that they have some kind of prevention to you being attacked or something dark. I hope...

I think the finishing moves should be abilities - if enemy is low on health, use a skill to kill him immidiately with some epic attack.

Well, the special moves should come with extra evasion bonuses to minimize the attacks and give the player a breather.

I think you should be immune to damage during them. I like the finishing moves, but I realize some find them disruptive. It only happened to me once, where I almost died because of a finishing move taking too long.

Wouldn't like that immersion-wise. You should be able to at least feel a "sting". Let's say that your nimble and adrenaline filled shock and awe move enables the player (or NPC) to evade most attacks.

Being immune to damage doesn't solve the whole problem.  Only making the whole party immune to damage during a finishing move would solve the problem.

If I have a party member who is paralysed and near death, and I can kill her attacker with a single strike, but then I don't get to do that because I'm busy doing inane pirouettes - that finishing move killed my companion by taking too long.

I'd like to be able to turn finishing moves off.  Let's add that to the list.

"Features" I'd like to disable:

PC voice-over
depth-of-field video effects
finishing moves
loss of camera control during conversations and cutscenes

Let's have both friend and foe look at the amazing fight-like-a-spartan™ finishing move. SHOCK 'n' AWE!

At the very least I feel a great mod coming! Now, about that toolset...

And now it's time for a more thoughtful post:

I do believe that if there could be a soaking damage mechanism on the PC - or friendly NPC - upon a special move, that could be extended somewhat to the other party members. It is, after all, a surprising attack that would take the enemy off guard.

End of thoughtful post...

ASSCHAPS! Heheheeee... *THUD*

DAO toolset was pretty decent

the only things you couldnt do were jump, make spears, and make any mounts

well I think you could make one, but it would be lifeless trying to ride it

Im sure DA2 will have a much improved toolset.

Make the finishing moves just pause the entire game and do a mini-cutscene of the Finishing Move.
