At the end of the day, it was traditional end boss. As we all know, the first game to feature an end boss was the groundbreaking classic Bioshock. Until that came out, games did not have end bosses ever. They just sort of stopped when the programmers ran out of time and released the game.

Screw the BioShock boss! Nothing beats Bowser from the classic Super Mario Bros!

No, no, no. Did you not read what I wrote? Biohock was the first game to have an end boss. It was a wholely original concept. No other game previous had ever had anything like it. It is known.

I've never completely played BioShock so I wouldn't know if BioShock reinvented the final-boss concept. But I can assure you that it's not the first game with a final-boss battle. Besides, I doubt the final boss in BioShock is as epic as the whole Ganondorf/Ganon battle in The Legend of Zelda; Ocarina of Time. Now THAT was awesome!

It's hard to smell sarcasm over an online text-based communication sometimes. ;-) But I just watched a video of the final boss in BioShock. Nothing spectacular in my opinion, but nothing terribly bad either.

It was all sarcasm. I guess my point  was that games have had end bosses forever, and the end of ME2 is no
different.

No one is complaining about there being an end boss. We're complaining that the end boss was a Contra rip off.

Yes, yes. Everything is a rip-off of everything else. Obviously.

Not really. ME 2 follows a linear chain, Event 1 - Event 2 - Event 3 - Event 4

This allows for proper build up and set placement.

ME 1 was

Event 1 - Event 2 - Choose event - Choose Event - Choose event - choose event - Event 7 -Event 8

In the middle sequence you are pretty much at a standstill in regards to the storyline.

Info here here and here, and after you do a couple events, get info here

It all comes together in a strange way after you have done all of the event missions which completely makes it seems like the game has a beginning and end but no real middle

I feel like this definitely hits an important issue. Unlike a game like Kotor where it really doesn't matter for the story what order you complete the planets in, since all of Mass Effect's "choice" missions are plot-related, it can lead to some very odd combinations. For example, my first playthrough I went to Therum last and so acquired Liara right before the end-game. This can create a very awkward story dynamic.

Edit: I also think that anyone who finds the human reaper cheesy (and I do) should go back and take a look at robo-Saren. My conclusion is that Bioware does not know how to design end game bosses with the Mass Effect series.

I wouldn't say they don't know. I would say they have a specific idea of the kind of end bosses they want that doesn't quite fit with the story the want to tell. Perhaps somewhat of a mismatch between the gameplay and story teams.

Perhaps I was a bit overzealous. Your comment is probably more accurate.

I do however feel a twinge of regret. The human reaper could have been made to look more scary (so to speak) if they gave its face a bit less definition. The picture Bluko linked, imo, would have been far better design for the end boss. The empty eye sockets would have been a plus.

I didn't find robo-Saren cheesy. Well, by videogame standards anyway, lol.

I'm not sure why. It may have something to do with the fact that I felt better prepared for it. He had looked robotic from the beginning, the idea of cybernetics and remote possession had already been introduced, we'd already seen husks and indoctrination - and he'd told me that the Reapers had infused him with synthetic parts.

Yes, but when this is the final result:

even I find myself unable to hold back a laugh. Maybe if they'd  removed his face and just kept the basic robot design, I could have taken him a little more seriously. Like the human reaper, robo-Saren suffers from having a heavily defined face.

I don't know. I think it looks cool. Subjectivity, and all that.

Though I think I would've preferred he look like a Collector drone looks when Harbinger possesses them.

Fair enough. A Collector Drone may have been better thinking about it...

Right, so in other words he wouldn't have expanded or elongated or turned all skeletal - he would've gone all dark threaded through with glowing gold veins and become ultra-powerful.

If you read Mass Effect: Retribution, Karpyshan makes it seem like a dude like Saren wouldn't be able to survive if he'd blown his brains out, as he does in many cases.

Just like in ME2, I think it's more a gameplay decision then anything else.

Yeah, I have to agree, Saren is a little strange at the end. But to be fair, he's such a fast little bastard that you hardly get a good look at him anyway. Until you use lift on him and unload some rounds into him, that is.:innocent:

I really don't understand you people's problem with Saren's robo-zombie design in the end. Really, what's wrong with it? I don't think it's silly. Actually, the first time I saw him change into robo-zombie Saren I was actually pretty creeped-out. I think robo-zombie Saren is kinda scary, well, he was kinda scary the first time I saw him.

So? What does the fact that robo-zombie Saren is controlled by Sovereign have to do with his design? You can't really say that his design is bad because he's controlled by a Reaper. How does that make sense? ^^;

You were creeped out. I burst out laughing. We had different reactions upon seeing robo-Saren. This is acceptable. I however don't find him any more or less cheesy than I do the giant Human Reaper.

But why did you burst out laughing? I mean I can understand that people think the giant Human Reaper is silly, but why Saren? What's so silly about his robo-zombie transformation?
