I've created a character in the toolset and used the uh_tat_dw1_0t tattoo mask. Everything looks great in the toolset, but as soon as I select dwarven commoner for my character I loose the tattoo. Is there a way to get this to work?
I need help getting a Noble Dwarven tattoo for a Commoner

You're using a custom made preset I gather? I wouldn't have thought Origin selection would have any effect on a preset's tattoos, but I've never tried it using the vanilla assets. You might want to try putting a copy of the tattoo mask in your Override folder and naming it something else (e.g. uh_tat_sir01_0t.dds). Then in the toolset load that mask instead of the vanilla one. See if that makes any difference.

Yes, I made a mop file and added it to the presets.
I've tried what you've suggested but still nothing. I've exported the tattoo from the texture file, placed it in the override folder, and added the dds file to the chargenmorphcfg; but it doesn't display the tattoo mask for any origin.

Oh, you are trying to add a tattoo to a preset in the Character Creator, not in the morph editor? Yeah that is a bit more of an issue. Tattoos are seemingly hardcoded somewhere. You can't add additional ones, just replace the existing ones:
uh_pct_dc1_0t.dds (Dwarf Commoner)
uh_pmt_001_0t.dds (Dwarf Commoner)
uh_pct_dn1_0t.dds (Dwarf Noble)
uh_pct_h01_0t.dds (Human, Elf City/Mage)
uh_pct_h02_0t.dds (Human, Elf City/Mage)
uh_tat_ed1_0t.dds (Elf Dalish)
uh_tat_ed2_0t.dds (Elf Dalish)
uh_tat_ed3_0t.dds (Elf Dalish)
uh_tat_ed4_0t.dds (Elf Dalish)
If you are making a preset then the best approach is just to add the tattoo of your choice in the morph editor and not touch it in the Character Creator.
uh_pct_dc1_0t.dds (Dwarf Commoner)
uh_pmt_001_0t.dds (Dwarf Commoner)
uh_pct_dn1_0t.dds (Dwarf Noble)
uh_pct_h01_0t.dds (Human, Elf City/Mage)
uh_pct_h02_0t.dds (Human, Elf City/Mage)
uh_tat_ed1_0t.dds (Elf Dalish)
uh_tat_ed2_0t.dds (Elf Dalish)
uh_tat_ed3_0t.dds (Elf Dalish)
uh_tat_ed4_0t.dds (Elf Dalish)

It looks like the problem lies in the default tattoos for both the Dalish Elf and the Dwarf Commoner.
The Dalish Elf origin will use the uh_tat_ed1_0t file to override your tattoo. While if you pick any other file than uh_pct_dc1_0t for the Dwarf Commoner, it will use the uh_pmt_001_0t file.
Interestingly enough, if you do pick uh_pmt_001_0t for the dwarf commoner, it will simply just add the castless stamp to your face with whatever you picked out from that file.
Looks like I will be making a mor file then, thanks for your help.
