Ah yes. Three simple words that can change everything. Yet I've noticed nobody really seems to say it. Ever.

ok. This is more of a generalization than specifically aimed at Mass
Effect, though ME is just as guilty. It's just a little thing that bugs
me. Only twice have I heard the word love in Mass Effect, that I can
remember(counting DLC characters), and yet we have like 9 romanceable
characters. You spend time with them. Talk with them. Grow to understand
them. Yet the most they ever say is "I have feelings for you", they say it indirectly or they
try to say it in a mess of words but they can't quite make it. It's to
make them seem sweeter or more human(lol) or whatever I guess but it
really irks me that nobody has said "I love you". The closest I've heard
is "She loves you". SO CLOSE! XC  Maybe everybody is allergic to using
those three words together. Maybe it's some sort of diabolical plot of
BioWare's(dare I say ALL game developers?!) to mildly annoy me just a
tiny bit so I'll slowly lose my sanity over the course of 100 years.
Maybe the voice actors giggle like little kids every time they try to
say it. Maybe it's just me. However, with a game that has romance as a big feature(ok not tha big shush), I'd like to hear it at least once.

It's
a problem in other games and media too. What, are people afraid that if
that the populace hears the words "I love you" that they'll go into a
blood crazed frenzy and proclaim Valentine's day as the devil's
birthday?

I'd like to hear your thoughts about this. Maybe I'm
just rambling and I'm a total nerd who has officially gone off the deep
end whose reality exists inside the video games he so dearly
loves.......Ok I am but that's beside the point. I'd still love to hear
your thoughts and if you can find other games/movies/comics/whatever
which is also guilty of this, it'd be fantastic if you said something.

Ladies, and some guys, if you know something I don't then tell me. I haven't played any of the femshep romances so I'm in the dark about those.

Well Liara, indirectly, says it if you romance her a few other characters try to say it. So my question still remains. =P

That's....what the topic is about. The characters obviously WANT to say it but don't for whatever reason.

That's all that really bugs me. I get what you're saying, Shadow. My point is that when it's obvious a character DOES love Shepard, they sort of swerve around it. They might indirectly say it but they never actually do.

As a side note, Does Kaidan say it too? Since Ashley apparently does, I was wondering if he did too. Also, a video link would be nice.

EDIT: Let me rephrase that. I meant does he say it flat out like Ashley?

No, we don't have any "I love you"'s. We have one "I loveD you." Emphasis on the past tense there. That's what Ashley and Kaidan say, although I'm sure they probably still do love you.

Oh COME ON! Seriously? Aw man....Ok. We're back to several characters using the word love to DESCRIBE feelings they/someone have/has/had for you.

EDIT: Thanks TZ. Too bad it's just Jacob. oh well. Minor victory I guess.

Perhaps it's fundamentally about the emotional intelligence of the average gamer - specifically when engaged in his/her hobby. Games are simply not interested in stimulating that level of the brain, and gamers even less interested than that.



Current gamers, that is. Like all forms of expression, it will one day mature and grow to encompass the full range of the human experience. A quick look at the history of "comic books" or cinema will illustrate my point.

could simply be that they are saving something big for 3? so you dont hear it said now but what if it is just a plot deivce they are using that will tie into the next game........ I dont know but its a thought
