I would go into great depth here, but the thread title pretty much sums it up. Which version of AR do you think is best for this type of soldier? Heightened is obviously better when it comes to the widow, but will your dps with the Mattock be decreased with heightened instaed of hardened?

Note: I'll most likely be using the Inferno, Heavy Disruptor , and Squad cryo ammo types along with the Commando specialization.

Thanks for any input

I guess everything depends.

Personally I would go with Heightened to make each Widow, Pistol, Mattock, etc. shot count for a little more. This make sense if you're mostly trying to do surgical strikes for a small amount of time.

On the other hand if you think you're going to use the Mattock primarily and use the Widow once in a while I'd go the other way simply because you expect to be out of cover longer and the damange protection buff would help.

IMO Heightened. You want to maximise the damage of every shot you make, because every gun you have is very low on ammo. Also DO NOT neglect your Pistol (recommend Phalanx for high damage per shot and ammo efficiency).

Easy, Widow is better with Heightened, Mattock and GPS is better with Hardened.

I thought the Mattock was equally good with either Hardened or Heightened?

This is how I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong).

Say you fire x shots in 5 seconds at d damage per shot. This equals x*d damage.

Hardened AR: 0.5x * 2d = x*d damage.

Heightened AR: 0.3x * 2.4d = 0.72 x*d damage.

This doesn't take into account other damage upgrades. Again as far as I know, they are additive with AR, meaning it's even more in favor of Hardened AR for rapid fire weapons.

Heightened AR may not maximize your DPS, but it gives you the most damage PER SHOT and minimizes the time enemies have to shoot at you.

The reason Heightened is definitely better for the Widow and Mantis is that you will have exactly one shot, and it does more damage with Heightened. It's also slightly easier to aim with more time dilation.

termokaden got the math spot on. For any rapid fire weapon, Hardened is definitely superior. For single shot weapons, heightened. It all boils down to whether you are going to snipe more often or use Mattock.

Using Hardened Adrenaline, you can empty the entire clip of the Mattock (around 10-12 shots with Heightened). With Shock Trooper specialization, it lets u fire one chargeshot + 2 normal shots of the GPS in a single adrenaline rush (Chargeshot + 1 normal shot with heightened).

With the widow, its 1 shot in both cases so heightened triumphs there.

So that gives for
Mattock: 12*2.4 = 28.8 in Hgt, 16*2 = 32 in Hrd
GPS: 3.22*2.4 = 7.73 in Hgt, 4.22*2 = 8.44 in Hrd
Widow: 2.4 in Hgt, 2 in Hrd

Also note that all these are done only on base damage. With addons, Hardened is far superior for Mattock and GPS.

Sorry double post

Oops just figured out, it should be fair to compare based on equal amount of ammo consumed (hence equal ingame time, real life time doesnt matter if it did, pausing during combat would be considered as reducing DPS )

Heightened:
Mattock: 12*2.4+4 = 32.8
GPS: 3.22*2.4+1 = 8.73
Widow: 2.4

Hardened:
Mattock: 16*2 = 32
GPS: 4.22*2 = 8.44
Widow: 2

Note that this calculation negates any discrepancy caused by addons as they will increase both sides by equal amount. Appears that Heightened is indeed superior. Then again, Hardened's true advantage is the damage reduction not the DPS.

Also note that the numbers 3.22 and 4.22 for GPS calculations came from the fact that Chargeshot does 2.22 times damage of regular shot.

If you're going with the Widow, Heightened by far. The time dilation probably also increases your melee speed, which is fun for being reckless against Husks, Krogans, Varren, and the like.

You can easily dodge enemy fire in heightened. Makes for more aggressive play as well.

Heightened IS BETTER for mattock as you can still fire it as fast as you can pull the trigger.

yeah, Heightened is pretty much better for all 3 weapons. Hardened only if you want to take less damage.

The reason I prefer Heightened is because you get the most out of every shot. This means you'll be more ammo efficient. And the fact that you'll be out of cover less time during Heightened AR than Hardened AR actually means that Heightened has a sort of built-in damage reduction as well.

Indeed, Heightened Adrenaline Rush also gives an additional bonus of 140% to weapon damage, so...

For precised fire(Widow, Mattock, Eviscerator), Heightened.

For sustained fire(Revenant, Viper, Schimtar). Hardened.

Heightened for GPS too, if you can master the quick refire technique.

Also consider Heightened also gives more dilation. Some people may find it allows more Mattlock head shots. IMO Heightened is the way to go for your weapons to maximize ammo efficiency. I hoard ammo terribly in FPS games (I remember going through a level in Halo and using melee on just about everything to conserve the rockets and sniper rounds I had been hoarding)
