I just finished playing DAO, the NPCs in that game are always stealing XP from me by killing MY enemies. Yeah, I own them, stop stealing my property! So I modded a little and changed the Sleep spell, it now applies a special sleep effect to allied non-party NPCs that puts them asleep regardless of saves, immunities or whatever, ignores pretty much everything. No more XP stealing in DAO! No more damn stupid AI hitting and waking up enemies that are asleep and replacing my powerful vulnerability hex by their pathetically weak spell, cause NPCs' spellpower is low, compared to mine.
So now I thought I'd play NWN2, again. And you know, every damn NPC in this game tries to steal XP from me. AGAIN! Soooo...toolset scripting! Changed Sleep, Deep Slumber and Color spray, it now applies the solipsism effect+invisibility on all friendly NPCs in the AoE. No saving throws, no immunities, no resistance checks, duration 100 rounds. Spells function as normal against enemies, I just apply this  powerful effect against allies. Cause you know, I put enemies asleep and then those damn NPCs just run to them and coup de grace them and I get no XP! DAMN NPCs! Some screenshots:

You do know you get the XP no matter who makes the kill, DAO or NWN, right?

Lolz isn't that a little extreme, "hey you your getting my damn exp here have some sleeping potion in your drink while I go fight"

@bardkesnit in NWN2 when a npc kills an enemy instead of you, you do not get the exp for the kill..

LOL. when an NPC Kills a monster instead of you. Why should you get the experience? THE NPC KILLED THE MONSTER INSTEAD OF YOU!

Hah, that gives me an idea. Someone should make a mod where death means you have to respawn, and the monsters get stronger from the xp they gained from killing your character!

Now how to disable re-loading... :P

heh...nice! They should get rewarded too. They should be able to loot you and be wearing your armor the next time you face them.

I could swear that was a feature of Everquest 1... or at least at the time when we were all fresh new players to that new type of game, I heard someone make mention of it over the East Commonlands chat... that orc camps leader sure 'Felt' like he got stronger everytime our group wiped on him... then again... they never did listen to my Enchanters dont hit the mezzed ones!, since no one but enchanters even knew what enchanters did... and even some enchanters hadnt a clue what the class was for... **sighs as the wibbely wobbely waves fo nostalgia flow over his visual cortex** ...

Personally id do it, or at least have a moral system in place, if a party member goes down, every hostile enemy in sight gains a +1 to attack rolls or saves (cumulative). Make the PC care about what battle situations they get into... suddenly that mob of level 1 kobolds becomes a little more scarey should they think they are getting the upperhand.

On an old NWN1 mod I built a long time ago, I did try and make the player drop a couple of random items when they were killed. I've always thought it funny that monsters would batter you then just walk away, especially since my respawn system at that point was "You wake up later in the village" having been knocked out but not killed.

no, you do not, that's the problem in both NWN2 and DAO. It's different in Fallout 3, cause you get XP based on who deals most damage to an enemy, while I think Bethesda games are stupid, this particular problem has a nice solution, well done, Bethesda! Bioware and Obsidian should do the same - check damager, if 80% damage dealt by player, give him the xp, no matter who the actual killer is

I think by NPC he means his own party members?..

no, I don't mean party members, I mean non-party friendly NPCs like the militia in DAO and the Harbormen in the West Harbor village during the bladeling attack in NWN2

well, then check this out: I cast Anti-Magic Ward on myself in DAO, get close to enemies. Enemy mage casts fireball on me. I am protected, so take no damage. Enemy mage kills all his allies, I get no XP, even though I am the actual cause of their death. Don't you think?

Another example: Enemy spellcasters cast Fireburst on me. I am protected by Lesser Globe of Invulnerability, so I take no damage, but the enemies kill each other, haha. Well, haha, funny, yes, but you don't get XP, so it's not that funny after all, isn't it?

Another example: You dominate an enemy in NWN2 or use Blood Control in DAO, dominated enemy kills former ally or is killed himself by former ally, no XP for you. Is this fair? I think not

See, I don't see that you (the player) Caused their deaths in any of these instances.  You might as well say you get exp because you formed the party.  So everything that died was basically "Your" doing.  If the enemy cast the fireball, and died because of it, they were dumb.  You didn't do anything.  Sure, maybe you learned that casting Globe on yourself and standing next to a Fireball casting mage was smart, it still wasn't "Experience".

And the domination one particularly.  You didn't thrust the knife in.  You didn't learn how to better attack a moving target.  You didn't fight the battle, all you did was tell someone who would listen to go attack something.

Just my humble opinion.
