I was curious to see what heavy weapon was everyone's favorite. I know there are some that hardly use their heavy weapon, but you must pick one for the look, or for that odd time you do use it.
My favorite is the Collector Particle Beam. It's accurate as hell, and I find it the most effective for almost everything. I always carry the Cain on the derelict reaper for the core, but otherwise, I'm packing the particle beam.
How about you?
Your favorite heavy weapon?

CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIN (in a Star Trek 2 style)
Other than that, the Arch projector is wicked.

I respect the cain for being the only weapon that can kill everything in a one mile radius (including Shepard and co.) but the one I carry with me aside from the cain-worthy battles, is either arc-projector or the blackstorm (aka black hole gun)

There are only 3 I like and 2 that I use.
My favorite is the Arc Projector. That things tears through hoards of husks and makes Geth Explode. Not to mention nothing is quite as effective at taking down Hocks shields on his gunship.
Second is the Collector Particle Beam. Long range, good damage, lots of ammo, accurate. It's a good universal situation thing.
Third is the Cain. I only use this thing once, maybe twice. I always use it for save the crates, and sometimes I use it for the last boss. It's an awesome weapon it just feels like I'm wasting ammo sometimes.
That being said I rarely use the particle beam, or any heavy weapon. But I definitely like 3 of them over the others.

I can only repeat what I wrote in another topic like this (updated though):
1. Blackstorm: Especially on the easier difficulties up to hardcore, this weapon is like the small Cain. Ideal against large groups of enemies. Play's (although only on the lesser difficulties) like:
"Greet the ferryman, take the group special"
But I find it being only little useful on insanity and severely limited on hardcore. On these higher settings it is only useful for Infiltrators (Assassination Cloak FTW).
2. Cain: Jepp, the Cain is not the first. Why!? Because essentially the same reasons as mentioned before, little efficiency in battles asides the ones with the Thresher Maw, Save the Crates-Mission and the final boss. This weapons ultimately plays like:
"I'd love to kill you and your pals a million times and, unless I don't annihilate it and him along with you guys, overpopulate devils home, but I'm not inclined to waste my precious ammunition on lesser creatures such as yours!"
The above sentence (my own btw, as with any other in this post) pretty much sums up the problem. If you once fired the gun, you'll find yourself sparing its ammo for only the mentioned three cases. Everything else is not worth the following ammo search. This weapon is the definition of "Overkill", and don't get me wrong, overkill is fun, a hell lot of fun, but its just too much overkill for any other situation in the game. Even nasty Preatorioans, somehow the Mini-Me of the final boss, is, at least in my opinion, not worth the lightshow. This weapon plays like Nuclear Holocaust, damn fun, great lightshow, ingenious sound, but it takes too long to do it a second time!
3.1 Avalanche: Yes, the Cryo-Gun, ... not the grenade launcher. Reason?! I just tried this gun on the derelict reaper mission (insanity/infiltrator) along with my pals Grunt and Samara and found this mission to be ... enjoyably easy. I don't really know whether it was my own increased prowess in playing, Grunt on the frontline or the Avalanche that made this previous I-hate-this-frickin'-Mission into a Why-the-heck-was-that-so-easy-this-time-Mission. I undoubtedly found the AoE attack and the freeze more than just devastating against those husks.
"Is it cold in here, or is it the dozens of frozen Husks in here that make me think I'm cool?" (Okay, not my best one, but hey, that's how this weapon feels like when you go against Husks!)
What little armor they had got quickly stripped away and with the next shot, three or more husks froze to death. Combined with a lot more ammunition, this weapon is far more efficient against husks than the Grenade Launcher.
3.2 Arc Projector: Aye, ... here it is. The Zipp-Zapp-Thrower. Another third place you might ask? Why should it be on any other place I ask. Just like the Avalanche, this gun offers great crowd control, trading in the Freezing-Effect for a wider Area of Impact per shot (if enemies are within reach that is). With being especially helpful on various N7-Missions, it shows it's one only little backdraw ... you often cannot put this weapon to it's real efficiency, since the guys you would spent Heavy Weapons Ammo on are normally quite alone. Though this weapons zapps Mooks and even Elite-Mooks into oblivion quite satisfactory, most of the players usually find themself rather Dagobert'ish with its ammunition and prefer to deal with minor enemies themselves. Which is in fact not really necessary, since the ammunition for this weapon comes by approximately four shots on average per Heavy Weapon Ammo container.
Jack's Recruitment Mission is one giant "I'm singing between the zap, Iiiii'm singing in the zip, what a glorious feeeeling I'm zapping again ..." given the various reload opportunities.
This weapon, just like the Avalanche, deals with it's power deficiencies by having a good amount of ammo, but again, the, what I call it, Cain-Effect, the players mental barrier preventing its usage against lowlevel enemies, is it's greatest problem.
4. Grenade Launcher: Finally some people might think if they were persistent enough to read up to this point. The overall crowd-control weapon of this game. This weapon is like the swiss army knife: It can do anything, but nothing really good! As the normal bring-along-heavy-weapon-of-choice, this one deals a moderate punch against everything and leaves the enemy open to following attacks, at least for a short while. It also happens to be a good Anti-Husk weapon, though I found the Avalanche way more appealing, mainly because the bigger ammunition storage.
"Swiss Army knifes are great to have along with you the first time, ... but the second time people prefer to bring in the sledgehammer!"
This pretty much defines the Grenade Launcher, allrounders are great if you don't know what you are going to run into, but the second time you'll most probably want the right weapoin to deal with them.
5. Missile launcher: The missile launcher is like the Grenade Launcher, just less accurate, which is quite ironic, since it happens to be the only guided weapon AND has friend-to-foe designation systems. But, evidently, this weapon hits everything with an equal outcome like the Grenade Launcher, just not where you intended it to hit.
"Fire and Forget: Fire this weapon at the enemy and forget you ever aimed at him, ... you'll feel much more proficient this way!"
This weapon can be quite annoying. There is this one guy directly in front of you, with the place right between his eyes in the center of your crosshair, you fire and expect to hit him right into his ugly face (very ugly face if this guy happens to be a Vorcha) and the missile makes a looping right before impact, adds a screwdriver combined with the Helicopter to finally perform a Lutz and hit, ... the guy on the opposite side of the battlefield. And if that wasn't enough, this guy most probably even survived, ... just great.
6. Collector Particle Beam: If it weren't because of the sniper rifles, this weapon would be quite useful. Unfortunately for it, there are sniper rifles. This weapon is a heavy weapon, that want's to be a sniper weapon, but fails at it because A.) It because it has too infrequent ammunition reloads for its fast consumation tendencies B.) Deals to little damage and therefore finally C.) leaves the player way too long vulnerable to enemy fire.
"Rules for Snipers:
1. Don't stick your nose out of cover unless you kill someone.
2. Don't stick your nose out of cover unless you prepare to kill someone.
3. Don't stick your nose out of cover unless you want to get killed yourself.
4. Don't you ever frickin' stick your damned nose out of your wicked cover, damnit!!!"
Except for the second rule, which does not apply to this game as you can actually look over yourself, the Collector Particle Beam violates every rule a sniper should stick to if he plans to survive battle. Especially on Insanity difficulty, even shooting once with the Widow, which exposes you for an only short time, can result into quite some holes in your shield and hard suit if you aren't in an optimal sniper position. And because the game ain't as friendly as scripting us the wanted fortress whenever we want, any exposure up to five seconds can mean death, ... for you. Given the role as a sniper equivalent for Heavy Weapons, this one has only little practical use that can not be fulfilled in a better way with sniper rifles. And the only class that wouldn't choose the sniper rifle training over something else is the Vanguard, ... and Vanguards don't sniper, they crush. Overall, this weapon is not useless, it just lacks sense.
7. Firestorm: Such a fiercefull name for such a pathetic weapon. Out of every Heavy Weapon, this one is just one big disappointment. Lacking range, lacking enough AoE to compensate for the lack of range and last but not least lacking "fire"power to compensate the previous lacks. If this weapons happens to be a ship, it would sink immediately, ... because it lacks quite about everything. Honestly, a weapon that throws cotton balls would have a greater "impact" on battles than this piece of junk, ... enemies would at least laugh themselfes to death, a thing the Firestorms lacks too, given the pityfull stats it presents.

(I couldn't help, but this time, not a unique sentence, but a picture of wisdom!)
This time, the teamkiller happes to be you, killing your beloved/hated Tali, Miranda, Grunt and whoever you brought along, if you chose this weapon, ... the Firestorm earned itself the last place, the only achievement this weapons has for quite some time I guess!
And for those that lasted long enough to read my whole post, congratulations, you have stamina!

uhm people do not realize that aside for insanity there are missions that automatically recharge your heavy hammo to the max.......tali recruitment.....save the crates......just to name 2
I love to use the Cain for the Praetorians, just because they are brought in as these super big baddies and all I have to do is watch them die in a storm of nuclear-looking fire
and to give the coup the grace to the final boss...always love to drive the point across

SUPER GRENADE!
The M-100 tells it like it is and wipes out pretty much anything you point it at. Unfortunately, the ammo for it is scarce, but it's typically only best used when you're in a tight spot.

1) Arc Projector - Multi-purpose, makes pyros explode, but is terrible on armor. Chain effect/defense stripping is amazing.
2) Avalanche - Arc Projector with AOE & freeze instead of shock and chain.
3) Firestorm - EXCELLENT at close quarters and organics. Great as an OH **** weapon at close range.

Let's see, it depends on what I expect on the mission:
1. The Collector particle beam: Good all around weapon - the only downside is that you have to remain exposed to use it on a big target like a YMIR
2. The Avalanche: Great for use on crowds of human sized targets. The final fight in Kasumi's LM goes much easier when you can freeze a whole elevator worth of bad guys.
3. Missile launcher: Another good all around weapon. Less ammo than the PB but it is a fire and forget weapon. One downside is that the missile might track some close by target you don't see rather than the one you are aiming at.

Collector Particle Beam.
I can't stand Cain it's a completely stupid weapon IMO since using it just trivializes gameplay.

I gotta say the Cain, just because of the nuclear explosion. I know it's not particularly accurate, but nothing beats watching a field of enemies get razed to the ground under a mushroom cloud. And nothing beats the first time I fired that thing, not knowing what to expect. My heart filled with joy.

I think my go-to heavy weapon, especially in the early going (garrus recruitment mission rings a bell) is the Arc Projector. Before that came out, I would use the collector particle beam.
Although I haven't used it, I have watch TheGreatGatsby use the Avalanche to great effect.

On my sentinel, I pretty much only use the collector particle beam, or the missile launcher.
For my soldier I am going to try using other stuff.
But with the introcution of the mattock, I don't even use the beam anymore, I just put super high damage AR rounds into them.

I used the Collector Particle Beam in just about every mission (Arc Projector before I got it). It makes such a satisfying sound when firing, and vaporizes all but the biggest enemies satisfyingly fast.
Though I must say, firing the Cain at the Thresher Maw on Tuchanka made me cackle so diabolically that my roommate came in to see what the hell was going on. I just wish it didn't take so much damn ammo to fire... I can pew-pew-pew something with the particle beam for quite a while compared to the 1 or 2 shots I can get out of the Cain before it's dry. But those 1 or 2 shots.... hot diggity damn.
