The low readership means fewer, or even, NO answers at all to questions

But there are other ways to learn

Readership in forums like this one is already low from late spring through the fall, due to the instense competition from so very many outdoor and seasonal activities.  During the middle of the week, a question may go all day long before anyone who recognizes the problem may suggest anything in response.  Add in the weekend influence, and many questions get no answers at all (very particularly when they are unnecessary questions, already asked and answered many times).

Although there has been some upsurge in new arrivals in here the past couple of weeks, experienced gamers aren't back in the place in large numbers yet (November, 2011), so answers have been slow and the newest of you are wearing blindfolds, as usual.

There are pinned threads on top of the forum with answers already in them, and there is a forum Search function (although it is actually a terrible thing):

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/58/index/3022933

Because it is a badly crippled thing, you almost certainly will be better off using Google with a "site:" redirector added to point back to here.  Thus, instead of no answer at all, you can find the already answered threads and get back to playing the game much sooner.

site:social.bioware.com

Should the search fail to include a usable answer, there is a fairly standard report form that PC game forums all suggest and is needed here as well:

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/58/index/7280573

and my own alternate to that one:

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/58/index/2836375

I'll add the equivalent of one "FAQ", for those who are always in a hurry, and ignored the system requirements label on the game:

Here are the minimum requirements for XP

Windows XP Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 Single (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD 64 (or equivalent) running at 2.0Ghz or greater
RAM: 1 GB or more
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space
Video: ATI Radeon X850 256MB or greater (this is clearly wrong)
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB or greater (and this one is more wrong)

(Note: IMO, the practical choices for the two video cards above should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 GS, at least, for small textures - it will take a Radeon X1650 XT (or X1800 GTO) for medium or better textures)

Speak for yourself, but I help out with what I can when I can. And that includes during the weekend. Unlike many, I don't mind repeating myself.

Actually, the most commonly repeated questions, I won't answer at any time of the year, nor do I respond to either the stupid L33T foolishness in a topic line, or in the message itself, nor to topics written in all caps,  or other badly written topic lines (for instance, I do not care a whit about actors' and women's makeup, so learn how to spell "rogue"). But my visits to the forums are 30 - 40 % less frequent in summer, so those of them that I do tend to answer (graphics, images, video, etc) may scroll off of the top couple of index pages, so I may never see them, personally, as that's as far as I typically look back, and so I don't respond to anything more deeply buried.

It's that time, once again.

Um, wow.  You might want to edit your headline to, "I won't help anyone on weekends, and I'll never help anyone who doesn't meet my grammatical standards."  It's a shame because you seem to know a lot about graphics cards-- an area I don't know squat about, alas, beyond installing said cards and making sure drivers work.

Sorry. At my age, I have zero tolerance for either fools or (intentional) illiterates.

The low weekend readership will not be any better in the fall.

erm, and? Just a statement, or?

Let's discuss some grammar, spelling and fools in general here in the technical support forum for Dragon Age, very fitting.

Maybe find an offtopic forum somewhere to discuss this and let those willing to assist eachother do so here.

Dragon Age: Origins PC Technical Support

This forum is for fans and owners of Dragon Age: Origins to assist each other with technical questions. Official game support is provided by Electronic Arts, but fans are encouraged to try to assist each other here.

It's simple courtesy. As stated this is a self-help forum, just gamers trying to help other gamers. Guys like you and me.

When you ask for help, do you think you'll get better results by actually demonstrating that you've already looked for an answer, using clear and concise language, and providing all the details of your problem?

Or do you think you'll get more respect if you barge in demanding answers like an entitled brat, using some weird code that no one can read and don't even give all the details of your problem?

Remember there are no Bioware employees being paid to help here, just average Joes like you and me.

Personally I think Gorath should just ignore posts he doesn't like, it'd probably extend your lifespan G. ;)

Get into the good habit of self-reliance again, everyone.  The gaming world is typically on hiatus from now until October or November.  Witcher Two is really unusual, with a spring release.

But AFAIK, their own forum (Witcher's Official one) is still offline . .

I haven't checked the last few days to see if Witcher's developers finally took time to sort out their forum. Of the four Bioware PC games covered by PC Tech Forums, only this one had a relatively active readership over the month preceding summer. Mass Effect 1 had been dead for months, ME2's Tech Forum was already a shadow of itself, and DA2's Tech Forum had mostly died out by early spring.

This one's apparently curled up to hibernate for the warm season, now . .

As always, when it's both the weekend, and it's summer, rely upon the forum's stickies (pinned on top for the newest of new arrivals here) and on the forum's archive. But avoid the built-in "Search/Find" here in the place. It's hardly anything better than just garbage. Instead use either Google or Yahoo and add the redirector to it:

So far this June, the slowdowns for the "weekends" have been four days' worth, commonly, Fridays through Mondays.

^ That.

Interestingly, today, Saturday the 16th of July, the new arrivals also stopped arriving, somehow.

All this week, and most of last week, the great majority of new posts have been unnecessary anyway, being about DLC matters that are already covered by various stickies, so those aren't getting answered, weekend or not, by hardly anyone other than Sami Jo, because they are just too boring to bother with.

That's what the stickies are for.

The archives and the stickies are always the best bets when Friday afternoon rolls around (I know, it's Saturday, but I was too busy yesterday to look this reminder up then).

What happened to August and September? The people around here wear blindfolds from May to October, and never read much of anything we have written for them to see before they repeat any of the same couple of dozen questions they always ask.

Friday apparently got started early, yesterday evening (last active thread here 14 hours ago), but the slow readership means what it always does, the archives and the stickies become the only reliable way to get answers. Good luck, and try to enjoy the game!

Admittedly, there are really too many Stickies, and a Moderator should edit a few of the most useful ones to include any significant observations from the oldest and generally least useful ones, before un-stickying those.  Meanwhile, we will always need certain basic information, and Raen Imrahl's "Read First" Sticky covers those items (also meanwhile, it's now been over three weeks, this time, since he was on the forums, so we'll have to request any such reorganization from another moderator).

Take off the blindfolds, use the archives and the stickies, and be patient. Sami Jo did come by yesterday, bless her generous, ever-patient heart!

No, way too tall to be a wayward Hobbit / Halfling. More like Fistandantilus (or whoever the ancient mage / demigod was while in human form, with the bad case of memory loss). OK, he called himself Fizban, not Fistandantilus.

Here's an image.  Look how much taller Fizban is than the Halfling next to him.
