However, if it is true, I'll take an even greater measure of comfort in the knowledge that for Dragon Age's second outing, both Console and PC gamers are on a level playing field.

wait, so you think that if one person in the world is sick so should everyone else so they can have a level playing field.

if one person loses their job then so should everyone else so they can have a level playing field.

No aerial view? Image IPB
This news make me want to superman-punch a few 360 and PS3 owners in the face.

That would be cool if the DAO toolset were compatible with DA2 and people could thus mod DA2 with that, but somehow I doubt it'll be so easy, if possible.

Like you mentioned a big chunk of putting the toolset on the consoles is just computing power and usability. But even ignoring that obstacle, fat chance that MS or Sony would allow for mods and user created content without getting to put their rubber stamp on it or monetizing it.

Thats the thing that bugs me about consoles- they're closed systems unlike the PC. You've got zero freedom for mods or anything of the sort.

I do not care a lot about the toolset. I do not use mods and I understand that it appeals only a minority of gamers (passionate and creative, but still a minority). But the isometric view is a big change... and I mean BIG. Maybe it turns out that the game will be better with those changes... I don't know. But without isometric view it's definetely another game. So, I think that the devs should only be honest and clear the issue. They should not say: "The Pc game will remain the same", because the removal of top-down view clearly changes the gameplay dramatically.

Btw, that's a reward for all the people who were complaining about DLCs and that do not want online validation of DA:O because it would hurt their privacy.... Piracy it's an issue. A big issue. And the result is that they develop game for consolles and only port them to PC.

But then, a lousy PC game gets even more downloaded, experimented and deleted. A good PC game will sell a lot, even to those who may have experimented it first. And pirated console disks are for sale everywhere and very cheap, which makes someone gain illegal money since they sell a lot. Way worse than d/l'ed files that may still revert into some sales.

Someone mentioned the movies industry or the enterteinment industry as a factor that is altering the mind of the gaming industry. I agree. But are all movies a huge box office sucess? And there are no more "art" movies? What about a multimillion dollars production like Avatar losing the Oscar of Best Picture to "The Hurt Locker" that had a  very low budget compared? And movies are d/l'ed right at the day they start in the theatres. Does that make them earn less profit when they are good enough? Check the IMDb's US Box Office: USA Top 10. Does US$ 288,000,000.00 sounds good for the 10th spot within 5 weeks? Has it been d/l'ed a lot? No idea but I'd say yes!

Sony is a lot less strict than Microsoft. Unreal Tournament 3 allows for mods for example, but that is monitored by Epic

EA screwed over all the others .NO reason at all to think they won't do the same for BIoware.

So far, they've on schedule.

Personally I played the first couple months and a few playthroughs without modding at all (I play on a PC). I usually use an over the shoulder view anyway so the lack of long aerial views (that make me sick to my stomach) aren't going to upset me much.

Just as I lost interest in the game altogether I came to the Bioware boards to hang out and chat. I found mods I could acutally use and a nice modding community which increased my interest in the game immensely, refreshing it for me.

The lack of a toolset is going to cut my gaming pleasure by half at least. If I can't get the same amount of playthrough interest (compounding that with a storyline I really feel no connection to as it takes place over the span of 10 years and doesn't involve the PC I have made or companions I know) is really diminishing any enthusiasm I have for this product.

I will still wait and see, I've pretty much adopted this attitude for all the stuff they have released. Some I purchased and some I didn't. It's looking now like its not going to be able to hold my interest and thus not worth my money.

I think I'll go crawl into this corner and wait for... hell at this point the Second Coming I guess.

Or you could just wait for The Witcher 2 and support someone who actually supports you.

I know I intend to.

Marionette, you have motivated me. I haven't even played The Witcher but I'm about to shave, get dressed and go buy it. Thanks, mate.

No toolset doesn't really surprise me. It sucks, as I enjoyed some of the mods out there and always thought about trying it out myself at some point, but at least I can still mess with DA:O.

However, the removal of aerial view is quite upsetting to me, why not have it? Can't really think like a general when you don't have good tactical information, layout of the land, enemies, etc. It sounds like the game will lose its tactical feel. Now I'm starting to get on the fence with this.

I hope for good news when they announce the classes/stats/specializations...

Am I disappointed? Yes.
Am I surprised? No.

Consoles sell games. PC gamers pirate games because we have players who can. Hence we're moving more towards a console focus for games that aren't always-online simply because of money. I hate PC gaming pirates. They are the cause of the draconic DRM measures like those implemented by Ubisoft, and are forcing a trend towards console-only gaming, with Cliff Bleszinski from Epic actually getting out there are stating it up front.

However, I really detest the console gamers who say "Hah! If we don't get it, PC gamers shouldn't get it either!" Seriously, I have two words for you: Grow. Up.  Right, so because you can't get a feature on a console, PC gamers shouldn't get it either? Should they also remove the ability to play PC games using a mouse and keyboard because consoles use controllers? Perhaps I should suggest stopping production of console games because of the reduced graphical quality, potential for disc swapping and the onerous patch release process on consoles? If it was PC only, we'd have a much higher quality game.

I don't hate consoles or console gamers. Heck, I own a console. There are some games I'll buy for console and some I'll buy for PC. It depends on the game. The bickering that goes on between PC gamers and console gamers is utterly stupid. If neither party is smart enough to understand and accept the benefits and weaknesses of both platforms, then they should all just shut up.

I believe the end story is this: BioWare released the toolset with a focus on new adventures. Unfortunately, creating new adventures in the toolset is too difficult for many modders. So we have very few story based modules released, and most of those aren't getting the respect or popularity they deserve. What we DO have instead are a horde of sex mods and a swathe of overpowered items. Couple that with the fact that mods do not make any money for BioWare, I deduced that DA2 was not going to have a toolset.

Hmmm, I don't think anyone is doubting EA's "rights" to do anything, just questioning their reasoning.

No sale then. Not bothered, it looks like it's going to be Dragon Effect 2 anyway. Shove it.

Reasoning seems like the one of film studios: they call the shots without having any idea of making games.

They do have the right but why do you have to buy it? Is not the burden on them to sell this game to the public? I wasn't aware of some global mandate that required me to purchase BioWare's games.

I think you're forgetting the Bethany romance thread.

But yeah, I think we'd probably do best to lighten up in this thread, stop being so acerbic and simply wait for a dev to comment (or not).

I was there when Ultima Online was taken over by EA and look at where it is today......all I have to say on that, now I have been back and forth on this game, but there is only so many times I can get kicked in the sack, if this be the case.....my preorder is pulled, I can't play a game that is so far from where it was not even a year ago to now. I mean did the EA vice prez come in and tell you guys to make me a game fast so you HAD to cut all the stuff out to make..whatever this is. The Top down view was the last straw for me, I'am not about over the shoulder ME or DS..just what the hell is going on?

Yea, the PC market just just hung to die for the console market, and don't say Iam not a console gamer, I have a ps3 and xbox360 just not for this kind of game, they suck on consoles, but again thats IMO.

I never would have dreamed they would go this far from what they had going for them....bloody hell!!
