Bethesda releases their toolset though.

Yes but Oblivion is way more different than Fallout 3. DA and DA 2 are in the same setting with just a different art style. If anything you guys should be arguing for cross game compatibility with the toolset. An update of sorts

The actual toolset is not even compatible with Awakening. <_<
It is dreaming to think that it would work with DA2 which has a different game engine, different characters skeletons and animations etc. I would love to be wrong, but I have that bad feeling...

Enjoy sucking on EA's ****, Bioware! I hope you choke on it.

Once again, Bioware made the decision to concentrate on consoles long before they were bought by EA.

Have to agree with Estel here (even if she seem to be a bit angry), Bioware was headed in the action RPG direction long before EA purchased them.

Really, the most important thing here is that there wont be a Toolset for DA2. That is a great letdown, cause Ive seen fine gems done by modders. But we will continue to have it for DAO; its not the end of the world.

The "aerial view" is not the core of the gameplay, and I wouldnt say either that is the "key" aspect to label a game "true" heir to Baldurs Gate.
If the choices and the story are really compelling and not dumbed  down, I will be there for the ride. Right now, though these are somewhat upsetting news, its too early to say if DA2 will be "crap" like so many here are overreacting.
Just my worthless 2 cents. :wizard:

This is pretty much true, though. KotOR was pretty much an incredibly stripped down D&D game with TPP and combat that consisted of clicking on things until they died. No real tactics there. Dragon Age looked like a step in the right direction, IMO, and it's unfortunate they've decided to scrap an element like this.

I will say that I don't like the historical revisionism around here about how great BioWare was pre-EA. They made the same damn game with similar plotlines / styles three times in a row with KotOR, Jade Empire and Mass Effect. Those games all felt recycled.

Can we have a BioWare staff on this? Would be interesting to read that what they have to say about it, actuall reasons and what not.

I must say that if this is true, and it looks like it than Bioware is really not on the right path... a game should evolve, not the other way around...

Agreed, Gaider or Laidlaw where are you? I'm still doubtful because they have said combat on the PC would be largely unchanged. If this new info is true then that statement is an outright lie and this is the first bit of info on the new game that has actually disappointed me.

OMG! Thank you for the link! While I'm excited just to know that TW2 release is nearing... did you read that message? Is that for real? Hidden in 1 frame of the trailer? I've watched it before but the player within the browser doesn't let me advance frame-by-frame.

"This message is for our biggest fans. Analyzing our stuff pixel by pixel. It's good to see you again! :-)
BTW: Simple minded people think that nobody is reading these days, dear reader of this, we think that we can agree that is bull****, huh?
Same as the fact that single player RPGs are dead, or PCs?
We sold 1.5 million units of the game from a dying genre on a dying platform - so we somehow cannot agree ;-)

Before we start talking about TW2 please let us thank you for your great support and appreciation.
It always motivates us and make us happy.

We started working on TW2 right after release of TW. Our goal was to create all the things which made TW so great even better in TW2.
We are very proud of TW but lets be honest, it was our debut. We never made any game before, and we practically learned as we worked.
So there were many things which could be done better, you know it as good as us :-)
But the vision, the main concept, remains the same: a game with a mature, captivating and non linear story, and full of spectacular combat.
A game created by a team of independant thinkers immune to corporate priorities, who don't care what's trendy at the given moment.

The core vision of the game hasn't changed. What has changed is the quality and the maturity we can deliver. That's largely because we're more experienced and also due to the fact that we've cerated our own technology. Do you remember how we made significant improvements with the Aurora Engine in the original game, but it still had its limitations?
Now we've created technology designed specifically to create non-linear games with extensive plotlines and a living word...
Well, there's no point in expanding on that too much - you have to check out our tech yourselves!

Nevertheless, we have many reasons to believe that you will like The Witcher 2!
See you soon and stay tuned!"

Now this is good marketing to a game. Just bring back Yenn and Ciri and it´ll be perfect.

Its gonna ****** me off if this is true and it still sells well. I don't see how not letting people scroll down with their mouse wheel is a sound developer decision.

If I find out this is true and its by the same person behind resource gathering in ME2 and ME1...

Seriously, they went where the money is and you can't fault them for it because nearly everyone did.  IW, Epic, Bethesda, hell even Valve has started dipping their feet into console water.  The only one of the old PC companies who still refuses to move to consoles is Blizzard.

... and IW made MW2 wich is nowhere near as good as CoD 1-2, and Epic made UT3 wich is nowhere near as good as UT2004, and Bethesda made Fallout 3 wich is in many ways not as good as the FO 1-2. Valve always had console games, even the original Half Life had a Playstation port, its not news that they have their games on consoles. Oh and for Blizzard, they where always intetested in consoles, but just not enough to make any games for it.

Looking into my crystal ball:

Marketing hype increases closer to release date, like Mass Effect 2, the game sells millions of units and is critically hailed as an improvement over the old system despite a unhappy minority.

Without an aerial view, I just don't care about the combat system.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I just don't want to buy the game anymore.
Feels pretty bad, man.

And many more people who have been supporting them since way before DAO...

Many people who had supported them and the game so far are wavering and feel bad now.. Many people, trust me..

No sale then. Not bothered, it looks like it's going to be Dragon Effect 2 anyway. Shove it.

Well hi, CD Projekt....

Posts like the one above are such childish knee-jerk reactions.

Posts like the one above are so reminiscent of sticking your fingers in your ears and going lalalalalala I can't hear you bioware is god

No, they are just not childish rants like what you and your ilk is doing. If something is not to my liking i'll say it, like the new darkspawn armor design for instance. I just don't have such a narrow viewpoint of what a good RPG is thus don't immediately cry foul if it doesn't have isometric view. It can still be a great RPG, just with somewhat different gameplay.

Anyone have a bet how many pages this thread gets to?

If it gets closed, probably due to the OP's pettition, then i'd bet 83.
If not, then I can see this hitting the hundreds.

I don't see in what manner my petition could be offending. It's simply a request and trying to show that there are many people interested in having a toolset.
I'm more afraid of my thread being locked because of few trolls behaviour.
Or best option, a dev comes in, says" yes, the article is right/not right, thread closed. "  Till then...

Just because petition are forbidden
They don't offend anyone but they usually close topics where the OP insert a petition, no matter what
Therefore I suggest you to remove it if you want this topic to don't get closure Posted Image

Just a thought, I remember reading somewhere that BW wanted to make modding available for console players. Is it possible that this article is referring to them not being able to provide CONSOLE players with a toolset? I am probably wrong, just thought I'd bring that up.

That doesn't even make any sense. A reaction can be either knee-jerk or childish, but it can't be both.

As far as i know, it can. If not, at least i have an excuse, english is not my primary language.

Well I'm not buying DA2.
PC players made Bioware what it is today. Seems like they are forgetting that.

And most of those PC players have moved on to consoles by now i'd assume. I am one of them.

They have no obligation to you or anyone else.

You PC enthusiasts are one of the biggest whiners i've ever seen, seriously.

Thats funny, I was in console gaming for years and then when the run of the mill, rag tag idots came in and all they had  were kid games and shooters for idots, I left for the most part.  I have been with the PC for long time now and I don't plan on going back to the run of the mill crap fest that is consoles.

You guys can talk your crap fest about PC all day long but it comes down to what is easy for you, man you make me almost want to throw my ps3 into the wall.

Looks like we're already there this is BioWare's Command & Conquer Generals, so shouldn't be long now. I guess after EA fires everyone they'll rename the studio EA Edmonton. Or maybe they'll give it a new name that's totally amped and pusing all kinds of limits.

*lol* What a bunch of nonsense overreaction...

Am I disappointed? Yes.

Consoles sell games. PC gamers pirate games because we have players who can. Hence we're moving more towards a console focus for games that aren't always-online simply because of money. I hate PC gaming pirates. They are the cause of the draconic DRM measures like those implemented by Ubisoft, and are forcing a trend towards console-only gaming, with Cliff Bleszinski from Epic actually getting out there are stating it up front.

Another person with a tunnel vision with no respect for facts or reality. Do you know that Console games are a lot more pirated than PC games, right? And that since they are actually sold in physical disks around the world, someone also makes a lot of illegal money from it, right?

Read CD Projekt message transcription in my previous post. Read what they say about PC market and PC games. You know what they did with their patch 1.05? Removed absolutely all the DRM, which was only a CD check really, from The Witcher. Which they had already given the EE to the owners of the original release, for free. And that was a hell of a HUGE fix pack for a game.

You're blaming PC games for Ubisoft draconic DRM measures? Blame their greed and their need to intrude in lots of players' personal data which they prolly sell. What does EA do with the data they collect from my PC, which if I don't agree to I can't play their games? Does Ubisoft sold more AC2 (I'm assuming you're talking about that game) because of that DRM? Did it prevented it from being pirated? Absolutely NOT!

This isn't very surprising. They want to pull another ME2: streamlined, better graphics, severely dumbed down gameplay. At this point I'm expecting there to be no inventory, too.

I played DA:O completely in isometric, because it made the game both gorgeous and tactical, and it was very nostalgic. The 3rd person view made the bad graphics stand out more. If this is true then I expect DA2 to be one of the best-looking RPGs out there to make up for it, especially if they plan to compete with the Witcher 2.

I wouldn't be suprised. Still, dissapointing if true, and enough to finally put me off caring for the game.
