I'm half convinced they are deliberately trying to put me off DA II.

I have the same sensation, and I must say the achieved their goal succesfully.

There's no way I'm going to buy this sequel now, even if it come out as a good game (which is hard, anyway, considering how bad Bioware became with RPGs) simply cause I won't legittimize those choices.

I'm usually fiercely against piracy but I must say: better to be a pirate than an helpless fool which endorsed who makes fun of him.

I get that.  I don't get the, "there's no point in even playing this game," mentality, though.  Like a game cannot possibly be good unless it meets X prerequisites.

My mentality is this, I may play it but it will not have the replay value of Origins because of the lack of a toolset. It is indeed disappointing. I would have quit playing long ago if not for mods. Will I buy it? Most likely, but replay value is important to me.

I don't think you want to understand, this is supposed to be a sequel to dao not an everything changed in the game.

seriously people if a new game was coming out that has all the crap that DA2 looks like it will have, you wouldn't be interested in it because it didn't have a zoom-out view, a toolset, and you couldn't be an elf?

Considering I can't think of a good fantasy game that wasn't either iso or first-person (Wizardry/Might and Magic style)...yeah, pretty much.

lol I used to hate first person views in RPGs.  I had to overcome a lot of dissonance in order to even play any elder scrolls games.  :o

I started with them, when they were mostly labyrinth games with leveling characters and you had to draw a map. Then a friend showed me Baldur´s Gate.

That'd be about the most disappointing thing ever.  KOTOR's combat was awful.  Spamming Master Flurry is not fun or tactical gameplay.  The only thing that made it tolerable was that you could basically ignore it because it was so pitifully easy.

Kotor combat wasn't that great, but imho even DA:O's combat system is pretty awful. If I start to make a list of al the feature I do not like about DA:O's combat I would fill a page or two, but that's not the place. Briefly, I would say that the pause&play/isometric combat system that worked so well for the IE games based on AD&D (wich is a turn game), do not worked very well with the cooldown system of DA:O (since it forced the player to use the stupid tactics or to pause the game every second).

Imho, the point is that it's simply another game, another genre, and not the sequel to DA:O. Because the removal of isometric view implies another kind of combat. Kotor is only a reference to understand how it could look, but maybe the new system will be better then DA:O... I don't know: I would only like to see a dev word on that.

Why do people come into these threads and tell people how childish and ridiculous they are, because their opinion differs? If I disagree with something I will post a reply, but why be rude about it?

It all has to do with how fricking ridiculous the post you are responding to is.

And how do you know if the poster doesn't speak english well, or whatever. Is it really necessary to be an a**? I could insult a lot of people in this forum (not just this thread) because of the stupid crap that they say, but I don't because I'm an adult. I can disagree with something but I'm not going to come out and say "you are ridiculous".

First of all, I need to know what posts you think are crossing the line.

Piracy's worse on consoles? I don't see anyone going around saying 90% of the people who played their console game pirated it.

I'm curious to know what developer is making the claim their games have a 90% piracy rate.

http://www.joystiq.c...e-amnesty-sale/

Most recent example.  They claim 5-15% paid for it.

Just face it, Bioware couldn't resist the allure of the real master race.  Plus, they are a company, and I assume they do like to actually make money after all.

I may be wrong, but didn't someone say something about the console version being made differently than the PC version (i.e. PC doesn't get screwed over)? Whatever happened to that?

I just watched the Game Informer video interview again. Project Director Mark Darrah said:

"What we're really trying to make sure that happens between the PC and consoles in Dragon Age 2 is that where in Dragon Age Origins, we took a game that was designed for the PC and spent a lot of time bringing it over to the consoles... and I think we did a pretty good job. What we're doing with Dragon Age 2 is that we're really trying to make sure that each experience is truly a unique experience. So on the consoles the games is going to be extremely reactive, you keep that tactical choice but when you push a button something's going to happen, something really awesome. On the PC, a little bit more tactical, make sure that you can examine the battlefield and make your choices - keep that reactivity but again, focus around the controls that you have. You've got a keyboard and mouse, that lets you be a little more tactical with your choices."

I'm confused how they expect us to 'examine the battlefield' if the camera is fixed. Surely the preview is a mistake?

Couldn't a compromise be made - if they're adamant about not being able to zoom out fully, at the very least give us a mode where the camera isn't tethered to the selected character all the time.

That's fair enough. Even if these changes take DA2 down t , say, KotOR's level,  it'll still be a pretty good game. And I suppose most of us will pick it up eventually.

sometimes sequels change everything

On a scale I would rate this at a Heroes 4 rather than a Disgaea 2/3, or conversely a XCOM to X-COM

SEQUEL is not a subjective term. It is a SEQUEL because they deem it one. The people that MADE IT. Please don't go into that territory. Don't do that "you are just not getting the point" BS. Please. It just makes you look like a buffoon.

You're an adult, most of the people posting these rubbish responses are 13 year old boys. They're too stupid to make a thoughtful response and they think this is Xbox Live where they can scream naggers over and over again to ****** people off.

I somehow doubt the article is legit. Considering as how them admitting they are making the game with the console in mind contradicts everything they said previously about focus being on all versions. BioWare isn't stupid.

They did indeed say this. They will be catering equally to both platforms. It wouldn't surprise me if the article is wrong, or something was mistranslated.

Then we can all look back on this and laugh.

Agree, this does seem at odds with what they've said up until now.  I'm almost certain I remember BW confirm that the Isometric Camera would remain.

This is EA. They'll have their dumbed down popcorn console game. Aren't their exclusive DLCs all we need? And who needs technical shenanigans like the aerial view when they are on a tight schedule? Patching every four months is also quite alright since that won't stop them from making money anyway...

The Witcher 2, The Elder Scrolls, Elemental: War of Magic are definitely looking more appealing. But who cares? Rant away people, they'll still have their way.

*facepalm infinity* Well, not just you. But the people coming in here
and laughing and saying that people's opinions are "ridiculous" are
crossing the line imo. Say, I disagree with this because, etc. Don't
insult people. That wasn't necessarily pointed exclusively at you.
First of all, I need to know what posts you think are crossing the line.

Edit: I FAIL at posting :pinched:

However, TW2 will have paraphrased dialog, QTE's, and I'm currently looking to see if the game will support the same three camera options TW1 had.

I have no problems with that. The only thing i know of that bothers me a little is timed responses (you have a time limit on responses in some dialogs at least) but i'll survive. If i don't like the outcome i can still reload, after all.

Nope.

For one, I don't own an xbox. Never have. And I'm sure as hell not buying one for a game that is starting to look more disappointing than "promising".

I don't get why they have to try and fix something that isn't broken.

And urgh >.<  shame on you people that think the toolset is expendable. Mods are what keeps me playing and supporting this franchise for so long.

DA2 will probably be a good game, thats not what people are saying.

its that DA2 won't be DA

its like if bioware just decided to make DA2 like GoW, it would be a good game, but it wouldn't be DA

Then you're blind because you certainly don't have a special non buggy copy of the game.
