I am really tempted to buy the PC Version just for the Toolset cause i would like to make my own story based off of a prison guard on his rise to join the Grey wardens. I would love that. Please don't take my idea. Oh and if i DO get the PC Version does anyone know who to make cutscenes?

In light of the gimped PC version of DA2 (unless proven untrue...) I find this article particularly ironic and sad:
Bioware: PC is 'made for gaming'

Bioware has told CVG that the PC is "made for gaming" - and that there is "no question" over whether it will continue to lead development of its games on the format.

The studio is now hard at work on hugely ambitious MMORPG Star Wars: The OldRepublic - which will be exclusively released on PC.

Bioware designer and writing director Daniel Erickson said that the PC's interface was "less restrictive" than console equivalents.

"Every two or three years we hear the announcement of fantasy being  dead, PC gaming being dead and RPGs being dead," he said. "And yet, all  of the biggest games that ever come out - that set the records - are  nearly always PC games, and a lot of them are fantasy games.

"The biggest game in the world is a  fantasy, PC, RPG MMO. We all know the drawbacks of PC. We all scream at  our boxes and try to make stuff work. But at the same time, the  interface is made for games. The mouse/keyboard interface allows so much less restriction [than console].

He added: "There was not a  question when we started Old Republic - or any of our games, for that matter - [what the lead format would be]. There's a reason the lead SKU  for Dragon age was PC as well. When we're developing an RPG, it's a  natural place to be."

*sigh*:(

It's 6 am where I'm at, I'm tired as hell and I just don't understand what's goingz ohn? Is it the End of (PC) Days? Armageddon? Are all PC modders (and gamers) gonna die?

Should I get my tin-foiled hat and jam wireless frequencies?

"We don't know yet."?? That's tremendously optimistic of you. Unless it turns out that there was an immense language barrier at Joystick, then I'd say there's nothing more to know.

I.. assume you're talking about mods, yes?

In that case, no. You need the base game.

No, but I strongly recommend you buy the PC version. Takes some getting used to gameplay wise, but it's worth it. imo of course.

Haha yeah. what about the PCGA (of which Capcom is still a member, which leads to the previous claim), have they ever done anything positive for us ? Besides trying to throw more DRM in our faces ?

But I'm talking to Mike and seeing what we can say to help add some context to the article.

And by extra context, you mean excuses?

This game is being turned into a console-centred action game along the lines of Mass Effect, and no amount of weasel words, false promises and rationalisations will change that.  Dragon Age was created and marketed as a throwback PC-style RPG, and the sequel is going in completely the opposite direction.

Posted ImagePosted ImageNot that I'm aware of.  Are you talking about DA: Origins?  This thread's about DA2 and the alleged lack of a toolset.

This so they can dumb down and make easier the combat as well. Say goodbye to highly tactical battles, using long range and short range powers effectively. You will just spam between physical attack and magical attack.

what a ****ing joke. i like how bioware came out in the press recently, claiming that PC would always be a focus, and yet when it comes to reality they're sticking the knife in to all PC players. Definitely won't be purchasing this dumbed down piece of ****.

Capcom says that? What, are you serious?

Wish I had a link, but yeah, they have said this more than once: "we are a strong supporter of the pc platform". Meanwhile, they churn out half-baked ports for some titles, and none at all for others ( SSF4 ). Anyone with half a brain knows they are, and always will be, a console oriented company.

This is what peeves me. Console publishers 'dabbling' in the pc platform instead of doing it right. It's why I'm still waiting for news from Bioware right now.

And someone jokingly mentioned fealty to CD Projekt red? You better believe it. If you know anything at all about that company, they are completely devoted to their fanbase and creative mission.

No, only PC version allows you to install fan made creations. But to create custom unofficial mods, you need a tool. And problem is DA2 won't have this tool, making it much harder for creating custom content.

1 -cheaper games
2 -broader selection
3 -strategy games (usually don't make it to console)
4 -upgradeable hardware. Try that with the xbox
5 -there a dozen quest mods for The Witcher, two of which are made by the devs. All are free. Something you would  never see on consoles.
6 -ever played the Terran X series? No way in hell could the consoles support a game like that. Control scheme is too complicated. you don't even have the option of using a key board and mouse. Just silly.
7 -ever hear of emulators?
8 -and my personal favorite: no motion control games. Have fun playing wall-ball with your tv. :wizard:

1 True but on the flipside you get more for your games when reselling
2 If by broader you mean more strategies, MMOs or simulations, then yes, i'm not a big fan of those genres, though. On the other hand, there are awesome games you only find on consoles.
3 See point 2
4 The openness of the platform is exactly the reason why there's a much bigger chance for bugs and conflicts. With the console you can be absolutely sure that the game will work, no additional work required.
5 I don't care for mods. Vanilla Witcher was awesome.
6 Yes. Boring games. I don't bemoan the loss of keyboard/mouse, in fact i prefer sitting on my couch or a nice chair, laid back with the controller in hand.
7 Yes. And? I don't care for old games, some of which i've already played when they came out. There are enough new great games to play and not enough time. Also, ever heard of XBox Arcade? On there they offer a lot of old games, too.
8 I don't need to play motion control games, do i?

See what you've done BioWare!?! People are thinking its the End of Days! Children are being neglected! Housholds in shambles! All because you got rid of the toolset and isometric view....tsk tsk,  I hope you're happy with the MADNESS and CHAOS you have created BioWare....:o

Context?

If this "context" doesn't blatantly state "this information is false", I don't things are going to get any better here because of it. Just sayin'.

Well, a definite yes or no answer would be an improvement, at least then we could stop worrying over whether these features are going to be in or not and move on. I'd like to know the reason why we were told via Game Informer that the top down camera was going be included, and now all of sudden a month later it appears that it may have been cut. Whichever way you look at it, it's pretty poor PR.

Or many of the hardcore PC players (which there are a lot of here) will erupt in protest. For all we know this speculation could be the only thing holding that back.

I could be wrong and maybe people will just accept it, but either way a confirmation of this news isn't going to make anybody happier.

This is an sentiment that gets thrown around a lot, the "who cares about feature X, they should spend that time working on feature Y instead" argument, and I don't really like it. All of these features contribute to the whole of the game. You could use the same argument to say we should cut everything from the game that isn't as important as the story, and then what do you have? A book. Nothing wrong with books, but I'm not asking for a book, I'm asking for a game. Or you could make that argument to say it should focus entirely on combat awesomeness, and then it would just be endless plotless combat. Which some people might enjoy, I don't know.

Your argumentation is flawed. Cutting iso-view is not akin to not focusing on combat. They are changing combat somewhat, whether for the better or worse we'll see when the game comes out, not sooner.

I didn't say it was akin to anything except for any other content which some people argue is okay to cut because the devs should be focusing on other things anyway. In this case the cut content is iso-view and the toolset and the 'other things' are story, lore, and combat in general. People use this argument regarding many other things, though, such as coop, better face/body customization, better animations, physics, etc. Although the thing the devs 'should' be working on tends always to be 'better story,' and I don't think people ever specifically advocate cutting that.

I guess your point is, I took it to an extreme by riding the slippery slope down to "it'll be reduced to a book," when you don't think anyone's advocating cutting it down that far? Okay, granted, that was probably a bit fallacious, yes.

I still think removing iso-view is a bad idea. And the toolset.

Hey folks,

Victor managed to hunt me down, and I wanted to clear up a few things with regards to what I'm seeing as the two major concerns on this thread.

First off, let's talk about the toolset issue. Obviously in this community there's going to be some concern that we wouldn't release a toolset, so let me clear the air a little: The tools we're using to make Dragon Age 2 are very, very close to the tools you guys have used to make your mods for DA:O. They're not identical, as we've made a few in-house improvements, but they're almost identical. As such, there isn't a new toolset to release, per se.

While we won't be releasing a toolset update in tandem with Dragon Age 2, we ARE investigating what it would take to update the community toolset to match ours, along with providing DA2 content in the future.

As to the subject of tactical view, I can confirm that we will not be doing a tactical view on consoles, though we are looking into some expanded party control that I think will make console players quite happy.

On the PC, however, we are still working with the camera to keep the key elements of the tactical experience there. I was actually playtesting some new camera code when Victor found me, in fact, so I can give you the latest news on that front.

While we likely won't pull as far up as we did in DA:O, I have always felt that the key to tactical play was actually freeing your camera from the character you're controlling to issue precise orders, which is what we're tuning now. So, this means you can still maneuver the camera around the battlefield and issue orders from a remote location, just as you could in Origins.

As you can probably tell from my phrasing, all of this is a bit in-flux right now, so things may change between now and ship, but I wanted to update you guys on the current direction of things.

Mike..
