Thanks, I'll edit the first post with your answer. But be aware that you sounded much more categorical in the press, sadly. Sorry they had to hunt you down for this and thank you for the quick answer.

I think there may have been translation issues. Listen to the podcast, you'll know instantly that I'm not prone to answers that are that...clipped.

Considering past history of toolset updates, I'm not too optismistic about this actually happening.

Still, nice to see you guys haven't abandoned the concept entirely.

Hey folks,

Victor managed to hunt me down, and I wanted to clear up a few things with regards to what I'm seeing as the two major concerns on this thread.

First off, let's talk about the toolset issue. Obviously in this community there's going to be some concern that we wouldn't release a toolset, so let me clear the air a little: The tools we're using to make Dragon Age 2 are very, very close to the tools you guys have used to make your mods for DA:O. They're not identical, as we've made a few in-house improvements, but they're almost identical. As such, there isn't a new toolset to release, per se.

While we won't be releasing a toolset update in tandem with Dragon Age 2, we ARE investigating what it would take to update the community toolset to match ours, along with providing DA2 content in the future.

As to the subject of tactical view, I can confirm that we will not be doing a tactical view on consoles, though we are looking into some expanded party control that I think will make console players quite happy.

On the PC, however, we are still working with the camera to keep the key elements of the tactical experience there. I was actually playtesting some new camera code when Victor found me, in fact, so I can give you the latest news on that front.

While we likely won't pull as far up as we did in DA:O, I have always felt that the key to tactical play was actually freeing your camera from the character you're controlling to issue precise orders, which is what we're tuning now. So, this means you can still maneuver the camera around the battlefield and issue orders from a remote location, just as you could in Origins.

As you can probably tell from my phrasing, all of this is a bit in-flux right now, so things may change between now and ship, but I wanted to update you guys on the current direction of things.

Mike..

Oh... oh..... omg... omg.. big BIiiiG rock off my bakc... omh... i can go to sleep now! THANK YOOOOUUU!!!!

One good thing came out of today for me at least. I finally got around to picking up The Witcher. Fun game. Thanks motivator whose name I've forgotten.

Glad to see not all hope is lost.

Toolset news sounds quite good.

Tactical view news sounds...somewhat reassuring. Will have to wait and see more gameplay.

Thanks to Mike for responding. Off to bed, to dream of cleaving skulls and fireballs.

Hey, a little hope is better than getting hit with a "crushing despair." As many are now saying, we'll have to believe it when we see it. Just be glad that ML intervened before I transformed into a troll.

The Witcher is a fantastic RPG created by developers who are passionate about their work, and do not seek to violate their own fans in the name of profit.  You did a good job in supporting them; now do one better and spend that money you were saving for Dragon Age 2 on The Witcher 2 instead.

Can we go off DEFCON 2 now and just resume the standard level of pessimism and disdain for console gamers that we usually enjoy? :)

See, at least Bioware responds to its playerbase. They aren't in the clear right now, but this answer has me sated....for now.

This is good news.  My only question would be...if the camera will be free-roaming as you imply, what reason is there not to let it zoom out at least as far as it did in DA?

Too bad they don't respond to the countless bugs in Dragon Age which leave several core features of the game unusable.  The only time they actually talk to their fans is when they need to for PR purposes.

Mod Edit: Removed inflammatory comments. Temporary ban meted out.

Well, actually my main concern was about the tactical view more than the toolset presence (which still I hope will be present as the updated version of the old one), so I'm glad Mike said it will still be in the game. Otherwise it wouldn't be so fine, not at all.

Thanks Mike for answering, and thank the Maker it was a good news.

Could you be more specific by what you mean when you say that you cannot pull your camera as far up? There are several scroll options between over-the-shoulder and top-down in DA:O, via mousewheel scroll. Where in-between the two would you say that the DA2 camera is now? Halfway? Lower?

When you saw the camera is free, do you mean I can click on one character without being at the highest level of isometric and not have the camera jump to centre to that character, as it did in DA:O? Will we have the ability to point and click party members as we did in DA:O?

Yes, I believe we can move the threat level back down to Yellow. Thanks Laidlaw. I remain pessimistic and disdainful, however. :P

Really though, the point about it being important to be able to move the camera independent of the character is encouraging. The toolset comment sounds like honeyed words covering a less fortunate reality, but we'll see.

Yeah, I'm eager to see PC gameplay videos too.  One thing I hope though is that since apparently they are still tweaking these things, topics like this one will help them make decisions on the PC gameplay.

I noticed that you seemed to enjoy talking about DA2 when I was listening to it earlier tonight. I'm glad you were able to clarify some things, and would like to ask that you keep Victor updated on these items so there isn't another meltdown like this.

Sounds like those French journalists should have listened to Earl Foreshadow and bought a Fereldan to Orlesian phrase book.
