So is it just a fixed camera view now? The ability to use the mouse wheel to zoom in an out was quite useful.

I just fail to understand why the iso view as it was in Origins isn't possible in DA2. Textures, really?

As for the toolset maybe being updated for DA2 after DA2 is released- again, its nice BioWare hasn't forgotten about it, but I'm skeptical as hell they'll do so. They haven't even updated it for Awakening. Which would no doubt be a much smaller amount of effort than it would be to update it for DA2.

I am glad that the toolset stuff will continue although admittedly, I find the current TS a bit challenging at times. :)

The Witcher was a great game with great cinematics which I loved watching. Witcher 2 promises to be even better, but I will be spending my money on both DA2 and Witcher 2. Although Witcher has an awesome intro etc.. I just love DA and well it will be the first game I buy out of the two. :)

Well thank you Victor and Mike! I might actually be able to calm down enough now to go to sleep so I can be a better mom tomorrow.

I can't say however that I'm overly pleased with the news on the camera angle tho, especially after viewing the video of an example of the "top down" angle didn't look all that top down to me. Seeing as how DA:O is the first rpg I've ever played on the PC I don't have a lot o exposed to other rpg game styles. The changes the the tactical view in combination with some of the other changes planned to DA2 give me a serious pause.

(If this makes no sense, forgive me, it's late and I'm responding on my smart phone. Not easy in this little window.)

I noticed that you seemed to enjoy talking about DA2 when I was listening to it earlier tonight. I'm glad you were able to clarify some things, and would like to ask that you keep Victor updated on these items so there isn't another meltdown like this.

Can't always keep him up to date, but I'm usually around for him to track me down when there's a pressing question (or he wants to record a podcast at midnight *grins*).

I'm pretty sure if Osama Bin Laden issued a declaration that he was responsible for voice acting in DA:2 we'd be able to catch him by the end of the week.

Mike's a new dad, so it's easy to find him at home right now. It'll be harder around the time of DA3 and beyond when the kid wants to go outside.

We could beat the world record for most people in gorilla suits in one spot, think of the possibilities!

I consider "Pause and Play" and the top down view to be very important for PC play (both confirmed by the August 2010 "gameinformer" print magazine article on page 57), and I do not plan to buy a 360 or PS3.
I do not want to PAY money for a toolset that I do not use, and I am willing to live with minor bugs (the toolset is not free).
I wonder how often Bioware had to chase bug reports that were the result of mods not working with newer patches.
I assume that bug fixing by Bioware would easier and more efficient if Bioware did not have to worry about mods playing nicely with DA2 (and its future patches).

Thanks Mike for your showing up so soon, much appreciated.  :wizard:

Not wanting to offend anyone, I would say to the fans that half an hour ago were shouting "TREASON" and vouching not to buy DA2, to calm down, sip a cup of tea and WAIT until we got some more meaningful elements (actual gameplay footage) to judge the game... ;)

PS: You dont need to start eating crow just yet... :P

Mike & Victor : Isn't the amount of goodwill Bioware has lost to it's PC player base disconcerting?

I mean in the old days such a claim as the article made would have been dismissed as faulty information outright.. but now everybody is willing to believe the worst about Bioware right of the bat.

It's awfully nice of you guys to respond to things like this, or drop by the forums when they *aren't* in an uproar, especially on a Saturday.

Thanks, I'll edit the first post with your answer. But be aware that you sounded much more categorical in the press, sadly. Sorry they had to hunt you down for this and thank you for the quick answer.

I think there may have been translation issues. Listen to the podcast, you'll know instantly that I'm not prone to answers that are that...clipped.

And I got bashed in the head for mentioning this possibility.

Sigh.....

Oh I'll listen.

I had created a thread on the French forums. I translated quickly your answer there.

But, finally, your answer is:

- no toolset update at the beginning (so no toolset at game release) and MAYBE later. This is not very reassuring, though it's better than the no toolset at all option.

- no isometric camera, but a new one, custom one. I'll wait to see this one. It does not go as far UP than the iso, but it lets you go around battlefield with a littler overhead view?

Thank you. I can finally go to bed instead of managing the thread.

Holy oh wow. You leave for a bit and come back and CHAOS.

And then...

CHAOS AVERTED.

I would have loved to be here and popped a soda and watch this unfold real time. Goddamn summer sucking me away into real life...

Well, I'm very glad we'll probably be getting some form of the toolset.
