One thing I'd like to know is if this part of the interview was just a bad translation as Laidlaw mentioned or what:
"Now, the game mainly sold on console, so we're going the way of the audience"
Firstly, did Origins really sell more on consoles than PC? And is that just a bad quote or not? It seems like a big middle finger to the PC gamers who supported Origins only to have that support ignored in favor of focusing on the consoles as "the audience" for DA2.
I've just seen so many crummy multiplatform PC ports that all the changes and console focus of DA2 has me more than a bit jaded.

Mike's a new dad, so it's easy to find him at home right now. It'll be harder around the time of DA3 and beyond when the kid wants to go outside.

Like any good PR, we still don't have answers to any of the concerns raised. Just that they're looking at it. Fair enough for now I suppose, but all we've got is that there might be a toolset update after March 2011 if BioWare feels like it and that the Isometric view from Origins is kaput, but they're working on a more zoomed in view that is still subject to change. I'm supposed to be reassured, why?

Yes and no...
At least, Mike Laidlaw confirmed that there is no
toolset for DA2, and that MAYBE, after release, they'll try to release
an update of the previous one to work with DA2...
And we have lost the isometric camera to a new hybrid one it seems...

Right- so why is everyone all relieved that DA2 isn't being nerfed for the PC? No Origins isometric view, but a more zoomed in one because why? Its not like PC's can't handle it. Can we still zoom in and out? I get that its still a WIP but it just seems a bit premature for PC people on here to be ready to eat crow when Laidlaw basically said they're axing the Origins iso view but putting in a hybrid one....I don't get it.
And the toolset- yeah, again, I'll believe it when I see it. They haven't updated it for Awakening, whats their incentive for DA2- after the game has been released, if at all. Oh, hey! It'll be a DLC download!<_<
*yes, I realize I'm being a total downer- for that I apologize:innocent:

A more oriented console game, once again . No ToolSet, not mod-friendly = overpriced DLC to add some variety to the main game .
Nvm, saw the edit ... Tough I'm not completely reassured .

Like that's a surprise? That's how it works at EA. You make one genuinely good game to start out a franchise, and the sequels go steadily downhill as they become shorter and simpler, and development cycles are truncated in favour of producing DLC and multiplayer content. The game isn't in itself what's important; it's all about creating a "media platform" for additional products. Trilogies are always the sweet spot because usually interest in a series dies out by that point, and developers will become fatigued if they work too long on one thing.Quinnzel wrote...

Maybe it's my English that is poor, I don't know, but he said that pc version allows players to move the camera out of the third person, he actually said "just as in Origins", and before he and the other guys from BioWare said that pc version's gameplay would be pretty much the same of Origins, at least in the structure of the gameplay, with some minor changes of course (not in the structure but in other things, just like class balancement for example).Brockololly wrote...

Hey folks,
Victor managed to hunt me down, and I wanted to clear up a few things with regards to what I'm seeing as the two major concerns on this thread.
First off, let's talk about the toolset issue. Obviously in this community there's going to be some concern that we wouldn't release a toolset, so let me clear the air a little: The tools we're using to make Dragon Age 2 are very, very close to the tools you guys have used to make your mods for DA:O. They're not identical, as we've made a few in-house improvements, but they're almost identical. As such, there isn't a new toolset to release, per se.
While we won't be releasing a toolset update in tandem with Dragon Age 2, we ARE investigating what it would take to update the community toolset to match ours, along with providing DA2 content in the future.
...
As you can probably tell from my phrasing, all of this is a bit in-flux right now, so things may change between now and ship, but I wanted to update you guys on the current direction of things.
Mike..
Really appreciate you taking the time on a Saturday to keep us informed.

You know, I subscribed and d/l'ed your Alley mod long ago. I didn't remember it was yours. Don't know why I associated it with some BW staff that was making a mod. Perhaps it is you or someone in the team? So, no, the cosmetics and bug fixing is not only we want the toolset for although it that is very important too.
Oblivion only had a long game life spam to be because of the Better Looks, Better Bodies and Better Environment mods. I have some 1,000 hours with that game with 2 chars only. Dragon Age? Well, around 1,800 hours total with about 20 chars. Wabfloyd's Trailer mod really made DA a lot more enjoyable to me. I could play it just to watch my Leliana-perfected in action and interactions.
-----------------------
I'm really glad that The Witcher 2 will only make what worked stronger with no core changes instead (so they promised), while DA2 has already revealed more core changes and some exactly to what has already worked so well in DA:O.
But yes, I'll have to play it first before being impressed or disappointed.

On the PC, however, we are still working with the camera to keep the key elements of the tactical experience there. I was actually playtesting some new camera code when Victor found me, in fact, so I can give you the latest news on that front.
While we likely won't pull as far up as we did in DA:O, I have always felt that the key to tactical play was actually freeing your camera from the character you're controlling to issue precise orders, which is what we're tuning now. So, this means you can still maneuver the camera around the battlefield and issue orders from a remote location, just as you could in Origins.
This answer is a lot less categoric than I'd hoped. Why can't the camera go up as far as in DAO?

Nothing has been outright resolved or 'averted.' What he is saying is that, for now, they are 'looking into' possibilities. It is not a guarantee or obligation of what we will get in the future. Merely an update about what we may get.
We will just have to wait and see.

Just like they've been "looking into" the multitudes of problems that plague Dragon Age, problems which render many aspects of the game unusable due to crashes or other ill effects. We all know how well that seems to be going!Deviija wrote...
I will point out that Mr. Laidlaw said they are 'looking into' these possibilities. It does not mean, in any way, shape, or form, that these things will be implemented at all by the game is released.
